The "Unbias" Media

How couldn't an outsider feel that this country's media has an opinion, that it takes a side, on issues and events that are reported.

The enemies of this country are getting their ass's handed to them daily. Stories about some black female captain running the mess hall for 5000 troops every day are nice and cozy.

I think it's the actual act of war and what the success of war involves that really turns off this group of independant and "unbias" "professionals".

Like a bookie that likes the action. It's obvious in the lines he puts out. It's obvious in what he produces or offers. It's obvious in what service he is trying to get you to become involved with. The same goes with the media.

This war has been going on for more than a day, a week, month, or year, but the media can't find a US soldier that performed his tasks admirably. I find it very hard to believe that such a story cannot be found, or hasn't been found to this point without being shot down or ignored.

I think the thought of someone risking their life FOR REAL, the thought of a well trained 21 year old shooting multiple enemies FOR REAL, the thought of this soldier laying all on the line for others FOR REAL, the thought of this soldier doing this for his country without regard but knowing his loyalties to those back home are, is the scary story of reality that we never see, and won't.

It's as if by doing something so horrible for the parents and the many of us interested in the well being of those in harms way would seem like they are taking a position somehow. I really don't know why, just guessing.

The reality that killing our enemies is a violent act must be a big turnoff for advertisers I guess. I don't need to see gore and vilence, I would like to hear about successes and acts of bravery. I don't think this has to take on any type of political bend. It doesn't have to be wrapped up in anything.

Write/show what is happening. Is that too much too ask?

It might actually be appreciated by many more, possibly millions, who may be interested in buying Tide soap, or a new Chevy.

I agree completely. Our political system has screwed up a lot of items in this country but none bigger than the media. Democrats feel that they can not say one positive thing about what we are doing in Iraq for fear of losing votes. Republicans feel that they can not admit any wrong-doings for fear of losing votes. The entire country suffers for this and is divided because very few of us (me not included) really know what's going on over there. I know a few people that have served during this war in Iraq, and their stories are very positive. My uncle (52 years old in the reserves) leaves next month with an estimated timeline of getting back to be 2 years. I will anxiously await his take on things because I have zero trust in our mass media outlets.

Were the Poles or French enemies of the Germans. Did a German teenager's mother have any say when her government sent her son off to die? Don't think so then or now. You're whining has a word, it's called propaganda and only the scurrilous(Hannity-Rush and the O'Reillys) will provide it. There's no heroism in bombing civilians from 25,000 feet who have no way to defend themselves. There's no heroism in lying to the same citizenry you have used as collateral to fund this debacle that can never be won.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups

Exactly Dawgball!

My neighbor served 13 mths there as I have posted when politics was in GD. He came back and had a lot of positive thoughts to say about the Iraqi people he had to deal with in the medical circles. He thought the various operations and projects being handled by the higher ups in the military had a lot to be desired. He was very down about the things that went wrong in the prison, but felt the his work with the Iraqi's he met went a long way. He felt the prison activities did set things back.

I don't know how various stories aren't told. We have thousands of people there in various fields committed to what they are doing.

What does any of this have to do with the United States and the way it is governed and the FREEDOM OF SPEECH the media operates under, or my initial thoughts/question?

Never underestimate how blind one person can be about the subject of a thread.

Last I knew we wern't intending to bomb civilians. Last week american soldiers died while handing out candy to Iraqi children and playing games. The terrorists set off bombs killing indescriminately, not having any value for life. they kill innocent women and children without care. These are the people who are helped by the efforts of men and women trying to give others a better life of hope and freedom. Dan, don't get your enemies confused. You may not like or approve of the war, but don't classify your own country as a terrorist operation targeting anyone who gets in its way. Your just wrong, regardless who is running the country. I would give Kerry the same support in this matter. I truly believe that our country is the good guys.

Very correct PF

If we did target indiscrimately like our enemies do, the war on terror would have been over in a week. But that's not PC, and the left would have nothing to bitch about but owls, minimum wage, and quotas. I would love to see the US be much more aggressive in Iraq. They see our civility as a weakness. Lose the "Rules of Engagement" crap.
