I've been saying it for weeks.

QB is shaky, been a bit over-rated with his w-l record as opposed to his actual passing stats

The DB are terrible on this team, very shaky vs the pass

which leads me to the possibilty of them having to face the Colts in the second round of the playoffs. Give me Indy and their bad Defense over Pitt all day long. I'd even give the Chargers a real chance at winning in Pitt.

Oh yeah, and Cower's teams are known to choke in the playoffs. Plus they may be too busy recording superbowl songs than prepare for an actual playoff game.

every year there seems to be a 1-2 seed (usually the 2 seed) that loses their first game at home....my money is on pitt being that team this year.

Are you kidding me>

Are you kidding me>

They have won 12 in a row. That shakey QB has beat NE and Philly and just threw for 300+ yards in a game where they were on short rest against a desparate team on the road. That win was as impressive a win as they have had.

I have to respectfully disagree with that. I think Pitt wins three playoff games this year.

Even though I lost Money on them today, I see Pitt as one of the Top four Teams in the NFL. Others, in my opinon and in no order:
Indy, NE and Phily

of course pit is one of the top 4 in the nfl...nobody disputes that....easy to disagree with me now but what will you say when its indy at pit in round two of the playoffs?????? it's not too much of a stretch to think that the colts win that game, off a victory in round one and likely as a 3 point dog.

manning vs that pass defense
a rookie QB in the playoffs
a team that usually chokes in the playoffs

I'll take Indy.

i completely disagree on roethlisberger.
i complete AGREE though on pitt getting bounced in the afc playoffs.

also -- theres zero chance of pittsburgh being favored in indy so dont get your hopes up. although no matter what the line, indy would handle them. the lame pittsburgh secondary would get destroyed.

To let Eli Manning do what he did to the Pitt secondary is a joke. Yes I lost on a couple of teasers but Pitt will not go to the Superbowl guaranteed!!!!!

gman2-

if they meet in the playoffs, pit will be at home (1-2 seed) vs indy (3-4 seed) and pit will be favored...my guess is 2.5 or 3...which is a nice way of saying "we think you will lose"

as for ben, he will be a good qb someday but he is totally average right now....qb play is the last reason why they are 13-1, it's been because of their running game, their ability to jump out to leads and their defense that shuts down the run.

fwiw-i think atlanta falls into this same category, ca easily see gb coming into atlanta as the 3 seed beating atlanta, but that wouldn't be as shocking

Have to disagree with you there. You know where I'm from so it's a little biased, but once Staley/Bettis contol that Indy/Pitt game for about 38 minutes of that game in Pittsburgh, Peyton may be throwing for a backdoor cover.

oh trust me, i totally agree about the flip side of the equation (steelers power vs. indy's sieve of a run defense). im not a big believer in the colts, but i do think theres something to be said for experience in the playoffs obviously. ben is the real deal, but i shudder to think of what schemes he'll devise to shut down roethlisberger the 2nd time around if ne/pitt meet again. he (belichick) has made manning look like a high schooler in the playoffs, so road will get much tougher for pitts in january. im not a big nfl guy, but this year should be a very good playoff season.

gjn:

thanks for the clarification. i wasnt sure how the seeding was, so youre right about your line projection i think.

as for ben, i still gotta disagree there. i guess its the little things he does that leave me so impressed. the way he just does not get rattled by the pass rush and his ability to improvise (given how big he is). he's not gonna throw for 250-300 yds. but pitts doesnt need that right now anyways. still think pittsburgh will exit in the afc playoff rounds, but it wont be because of ben. it will be because their D wont hold up against the pass. yes, rushing the football wins games in january, but steelers still dont scare anyone in the secondary.

I disagree as well. Pitt very well could go far in the playoffs this year and it wouldn't surprise me to see them in the superbowl. They will soon get back staley and burress and this will make up a lot for them. And come on you can't forget about that defense. You have got to give the Giants a lot of credit for the way they fought today. I think Manning will soon become a great qb in the NFL, he just has a lot of work to do. He played well today as did the rest of their team, it was a complete game for the Giants even though they lost, they would have beat many teams in the NFL playing the way they did today.

One more thing, Pitt plays Indy in the playoffs and Pitt will destroy them - defense wins ball games, we've seen it over and over again at this part of the season in the NFL.

in 13 games he's thrown for under 200 yards 10 times

in the last 7 games he has 6 td and 6 int and had 20+ attempts only 3 times.

while i'm not a colts fan or big believer in their defense, pit has got to HATE that matchup (as well as a rematch with NE). If Pit falls behind to Manning and has to rely on this guy, who knows what will happen.

i did not lose $$ today on pitt, but i am not convinced on this team.

1. their secondary is weak. - they hide it well with blitzing. this will not work if they play peyton. nor will it work if they play ne again. look for a healthy corey dillion to be the difference.

2. roth is a nice qb. hell, i wanted oak to draft him. over the last few weeks he has appeared to be a little more careless with the ball. he was fortunate to not have it picked a couple more times today.

3. x-factor. staley is very good, but the key is plaxico. he is a much better rec for roth than he ever was for maddox.

4. pitt is a very good team. no ques. they will face some adversity in the playoffs that they have not faced in the regular season. we will see how it all turns out. the biggest deterrent is the defense. pitt must run the ball very well to win in the playoffs. jmo
