USC has now lost their #1 advantage over every team in the country. COACHING! Nobody knows how this will affect USC.

Interesting fact. Pete Carroll took over USC 4 years ago and only 2 coaches remain from Carroll's original staff. (S&C coach and WR coach)

USC has now lost their....

OC GONE!
DL coach GONE!
OL coach GONE!

:scared

Chow was making $500-$700k --- now will make $1million plus as OC Titans. (could have gone to Pats if he wanted too)

DL coach Orgeron was making $300k now will be making $1 million as HC of Ole Miss.

OL coach Davis was making $200k now will be making $300-400k as OL/TE coach for Dolphins.

All 3 were considered the best coach at their position in the country or at the very least top 5. This could hurt USC despite all the talent on the team.

On the filp side, anyone looking for employment only needs to look at what working for Pete Carroll has brought these guys if finances are important. I'd add that these increases look pretty good when one considers no state tax in Tennessee and the cost of living in Mississippi and Tennessee...don't know much about Florida but Coach O and Chow did really really really well.

So Carroll will have NO PROBLEM picking and choosing the best assistants to replace these coaches. Who wouldn't come work for USC? $$$$ + NC's + LA + Easy Recruiting + Talent already on team + promotions = no brainer.

As usual, ton of distractions at USC in the offseason. I thought last year was bad but this year is worse. I wonder if Leinart is pissed. Major reason he stayed was because of Chow and the returning talent on offense. Leinart "could" now hurt his draft status if the new OC's don't get the job done.

I think Leinhart's draft status is pretty much solidified...he showed what he can do with a NFL-caliber OC for 2 years and proved he can win, one off year won't hurt his draft status at all for next year unless he has a major injury.

Leinhart :

"Obviously, it would have changed my thought process,'' the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback, who passed up the NFL draft, told the Los Angeles Times. "I really don't want to play for a new guy coming in.''

Quarterbacks coach left to i think as well...

Hey Scott, you think Pete is far behind leaving as well or will he stay put for a couple more years??

I think Carroll is going to stay at USC for a LONG time. Only way I see him going back to the NFL is if/when LA gets NFL franchise and they give Carroll complete control. $$$ is not big issue since he makes top dollar at USC. Remember, he turned down the 49ers jobe TWICE and that has been his dream job since he started coaching. Carroll said the NFL can't give him what he has at USC and CFB. In NFL you only get one 1st round pick, while in CFB he can get as many 1st round picks as he wants. Thought that was funny but true.

I find it quite amazing Carroll is interviewing current NFL OL coaches. He already hired the Packers DL coach to coach the DL at USC. Not too many if any college programs hire NFL coaches to coach same position in college.

Its safe to say Carroll has revolutionized college football in a couple ways.

Are you an Ole Miss fan? From your avatar it appears you are. I think Orgeron will be a fantastic HC at Ole Miss. I would want him coaching USC if Carroll left. Your program took risk on Orgeron but I am confident you landed a gem. I listened to his press conference and what he said and plans to do at Ole Miss is an exact carbon copy of what him and Carroll did at USC. EXACT CARBON COPY! Smart man to do exactly what USC has done. Orgeron was with Carroll from day one. I got pumped up listening to him speak to the the Ole Miss crowd. I def. will be tuning in and rooting for the Rebels.

I will now bet Ole Miss every time they are big underdogs. Orgeron will always have his team competing and playing hard for 4 quarters.

I am not Scott but don't think pc will ever go he would be a fool, he is not a nfl coach, he is to good of a guy and that does not cut it in nfl, he is perfect for college and makes great over all money at a place he really likes and lot less stress not saying coaching any college sport at a upper program there is no stress there is and lots of it but different kind of stress that is easier to deal with. I think he will be at usc as long as he wants to keep coaching. He will be one of the last 10+ year college coaches, they new wave is about 5 years 7 if you are lucky or no-one comes with better offer.

He would be a fool IMO to leave usc and if it does go down hill it will take at least 5 years or so to get so bad they could and would run him and by then hell he won't need the cash he is not hurting now, but in 5 more years he could walk away and his kids will even be set if he wanted to take care of them for life. He loves the college game you can see it in his actions and don't think he would ever go back to the hell of the nfl if he did he would be a fool IMO again. Hell 5 more years like i said and he can golf and do what ever he wants at a very still young age, but I don't think he could take off that early he seems to like the game to much and would not beable to enjoy not working at what 59-60 even though he could with no problem. Hell i hope i can quit by age 58 and relax that has been and always will be my goal and with good finc planning i am a head of the track that was set for me and i will enjoy it but think pete would not.

Posted same time Fletcher. I agree with everything you said except him being a fool going back to NFL. If getting a SuperBowl ring is a goal of his, then you can't call him a fool for going back. He has nothing more to prove at USC or CFB. But I don't think it is a goal and he prob. will stay at USC for long haul like you said.

He is works very very hard so maybe he gets burned out but he seems to have more fun coaching than any coach in the business.

Carroll also has his son coaching TE's at USC so maybe he wants his son coaching along side him like Bowden at FSU. Hopefully better results!

Lets see how good Carroll is. He will be without his "all star" coaching staff that he assembled. Can he put together another "all star" coaching staff? If he loses one game next year, many many USC fans will be calling the season a disaster and start blaming him about Chow & staff leaving. I personally think Carroll wanted Chow to finish his career at USC or leave right now. No more of these distractions every year. As you saw today, Chow is gone.

I am also happy Chow left now vs leaving next year. USC would struggle more in 2006 if Chow left after next season which was the likely scenario.

Scott,

Does the Norm Chow decision mean that you are going to take down the Chow/Carroll/Leinert collage from the ceiling above your bed?

scott, no im a Illini fan. hopefully one of these days we can turn it around. With Zook being here it should help, but I don't expect results for a couple more years. The Board with Illinois is so cheap on money though and right now they only care about baseketball. If they really wanted to, they could of dished out money for the likes of Spurrier, Chow or others...

Agreed...grew up in LA, it is arguabley one of the shittiest places in the world to live now a days if you can't stand traffic, and that is EXACTLY me, imagine having to wait in traffic for 1-2 hours for a 10 mile journey back from work on a Monday, and you got LA....sad to see San Diego starting to turn into antoher LA, but we got a solid 8-9 years before that happens

You don't live IN LA, you live on the OUTSKIRTS! Living on the outskirts of LA Is fantastic. You have EVERYTHING.

Nobody wants to live "IN" the city, you live outside the city. I live in Burbank.

As for traffic. It takes me 45min. to go into the city of LA with traffic. 20min. no traffic. I live 13 miles from LA. Traffic only exists weekdays in morning and at night. So not that big of a deal if you ask me. Never has taken me 2 hours. Maybe takes me 2 hours in traffic if I am driving somewhere 50-60miles away.

The only downside of living here is the "cost of living" which is VERY HIGH! But look at what you all get. Now if you were going to be a "coach" making 200k+ you would jump at the chance to come out here. Especially since the previous coaches have been getting promoted left and right.

And the #1 reason to move to LA is.........

You get to cheer for the USC TROJANS! :mj07:

i am trying to get out of this hell hole houston

LA is much worse...too many people and way too many people with no concern for keeping the place clean (despite all the wacked environmentalists out there which themselves are a nuisance)

plus the whole state is a mess and turning into mother russia

i can think of about 35 other red states to live in or maybe a minnesota or iowa before i would ever live in california

You can always move to North Dakota!. About 600,000 people in the entire state! Weather isn't the best but you know what they say about that...."keeps the rifraf out". If there was nice weather there would be 5 million people here like everywhere else. Just better like to drink though cause there isn't much else goin on! :mj14:

I agree USC is not currently a dynasty. But I could certainly make a great argument to claim USC a dynasty. 3 straight BCS bowl blowouts (all 3 opponents were considered playing the best ball at the end of season), longest national winning streak, longest home winning streak. playing top 35 SOS's every year (#1 SOS 3 years ago where USC lost 2 games all season by combined 10pts), 2 Heisman Trophy winners in last 3 years, "consistent" domination over opponents on both sides of ball, nobody coming close in recruiting, the few USC losses have been by an average of 3pts and only lost ONCE by double digits in the last 4 years (11pts @ND in year of Carroll), I think winning 30 of their last 31 games and that one loss was in triple OT on road, beating the vegas spread on a consistent basis last 3 years (ha ha), etc. That is as close as it gets to being claimed a dynasty IN MY OPINION.

That said USC is not a dynasty unless they win the NC next season. So I agree with you. My subject line was worded wrong. I meant to imply USC's potential dynasty in jeapardy. I typed "USC's dynasty in jeapardy."

I don't think any team has ever won 3 straight National Championships, or at least in the poll era. USC will be the first. So then you must ask yourself, what qualifies being a dynasty in CFB? In NFL its 3 SuperBowl rings.

I think in recent CFB history, you can argue Nebraska, FSU, and Miami had dynasties. OU was very close IMO. But its hard to compare since Carroll has only been at USC 4 years and has accomplished more than any coach could dream of.

First shared NC game don't count for dynasty status.

USC got to win two more 2005, 2006 , then they can be a dynasty.

Shouldnt be too hard with Pete Carrol and all them recruits.
