thought the same thing you did. im as objective as they come. already had my bet covered so really didnt matter to me. but yeah -- kind of a shitty call. if he did take an extra half step, it was because of the bump. thats gotta either be a foul on carolina or a no-call. to call travelling in that spot is kinda lame. and it wasnt exactly a blatant travel either. hard to even tell.

wilson,

im a NC fan so i can be objective and accurate--i taped game and just watched the travel call in slow motion about 5xs, it was not IMHO traveling and the kid got fouled--unreal call BS calll (if that was traveling then 95% of moves to hole are) ... too bad, NC mightve lost w/o that egregious whistle .. NC played scared the last minutes I got to see game anyway .. Roy has them playing not to lose and they didnt deserve this game to at least be tied at end ...

Nova was screwed, period, and i have big future on NC at 10/1

The thing that bothered me most is, they show it in slow motion, and the colorguy says, "1,2 (the guy then shoots) 3. Very good call." The play by play agrees. Bullshit.

I had 'Nova +10, so didnt really like the possibility of OT, but a bad call is a bad call, only made worse by the announcers covering up, as if its not even close.

I am sure Vitale will not bring up this play at all.
Or say something to the the effect that UNC had the game won anyway as he wipes away the tears from his Blue Devils lose.

Refs ruined a great finish.

then i just hear on espn Roy W. said Raftery told him that it was a good call (like Rafs gospel)--gimme a break, get these ass kissing fossils like bill and billy off the color mics--they have curt gowdy disease and are a disgrace and cant even call a game impartially anymore, either that or they are blind

I agree with you guys.A terrible call.Raftery counts 1-2-3 steps, its a good call. Then they replay it and he says it again.
I saw 2 steps and what looked like a bump.
What I don't understand is why a CBS producer doesn't say something in there headphones like 'Raf,where going to run that back again. It's looks like only 2 steps. This call could be pretty controversial after the game".
After the one replay there is no mention of the call again. What bonehead announcers.I'm not a big time fan of Charles Barkley but at least he says what he see's.You have to give him those props.I would of loved to hear Barkley make that call."Now thats a bunch of BS,that ref .....etc

Feel bad for Nova and Jay Wright.Imagine they almost won w/o Sumpter and Ray who is is guest starring next week on ABC's TV show "Lost".

agree with bender; i don't know if that was traveling or not, but if i was officiating i would never make that call in that situation. let the players decide the game.

I was at the game, 10 rows up from the baseline. Horrible call but just one in a officiating circus. This game was called so inconsistently. Jay Wright was begging them to call it both ways.

That is a tough way to lose a game.It is bad enough to lose a 1 point game when everything is fair & square, but this was a BAD call by the ref.I am usually sympathetic to a ref because he is human and makes mistakes but the ramifications of this mistake make it very difficult to sympathize. To make matters worse the bad call was not properly addressed by the commentators.
I had nova + the points but my overwhlming feeling after this game was pity for this team that did everything they had to do,to win the game but they can't control the man with the whistle.

No way should that call have been made, but that goes for many many fouls. 1 or 2 of felton's fouls were non-existant, as were the multiple calls McCants got down the stretch in UNC's favor. As someone above said, inconsistent game by the refs...but it hurt both teams at times. W/ felton in the game would not have even come down to that play.

Intereresting....the loss to Santa Clara was because of no Felton. Then when they lose and play bad down the stretch Felron doesnt matter, it's McCants. Now it's Felton again...

One could just as easily argue if Nova was full strength Carolina never gets back in it. Bottom line is we dont know - we just know the game should have been 5 minutes longer to find out

not trying to perpetuate the mini-feud between you and saint, but your point is dead on in this case.

when they lost to santa clara, it was because of felton being out. when they struggled vs. clemson, it was because of mccants. and so on. (scott is most guilty of this)

found this quote below interesting. melvin scott almost makes it sound like they won 'despite roy':

``We all just hung in there and stuck together,'' Scott said. ``We just found a way. It wasn't coaching, it was us. We did it.''

Then I guess they are a team, the sum of which gives them the best chance to win. We've rehashed this many times, this is a quirky team who has the talent but the moons need to align for them to win. Had that game gone into OT i'd have bet heavy chalk nova walks away w/ the win.
