Bottom line in this one is the fact the Loaiza has had very good success vs Philadelphia in his career and also good success vs the hitters in the current Philly lineup. He has a 2.36 Career ERA vs Philly which includes 6 starts and has shut down some of their best hitters:

Thome is just 1 for 14 in his career vs Loaiza
Abreu is 0 for 7 career vs Loaiza
Lieberthatl 1 for 8
David Bell 4 for 18

Loaiza has also pitched well this spring in which he sported a 2.67 ERA over 27 innings pitched and only allowed 1 walk the entire spring.

Philly's starter, Randy Wolf, was plagued by injuries last season and was just 5-8 in 23 starts. Wolf's numbers vs this Washington team's hitters are nothing special over his career and the fact that Wolf has struggled this spring with a 6.92 ERA I'm not convinced he's ready to be facing Major League batters quite yet. He allowed 18 hits in 13 innings this spring and made a minor league start allowing 2 runs in 4.2 innings.

I'll take my chances on what looks like a nice dog.

thanks pete. i've got an underdog system that worked pretty well for me last season but i need at least 10 games worth of stats to kick it off. until then i'll just tail a few games i like, and the nationals fit the bill this afternoon.
