I am on vacation right now, and visiting my family in Florida.
Early this afternoon, I was checking my email, and heard a very loud helicopter over my parents house. I mean loud! I had a suspicion that it was a med-flight, and I went out by the pool to check the sky.
Sure enough, the BayFlight copter was hovering about a block away. My parents live on a golf course, and it sure seemed like that helicopter wanted to land there!
I grabbed my sandals and camera, and headed toward the course. As I neared the parking lot, I saw several emergency vehicles there. I made my way over to where the crowd was, and the paramedics were working on a guy on the ground.
The helicopter was still circling the sky, and I got some nice pictures of it as it landed. Here's the ironic portion of this long winded tale:
It turns out that the golf course was having a memorial golf tournament for a local guy here in Sarasota. It was a cancer fund raiser, I believe. The guy was a big sky-diving nut, and the event orginaizers had arranged for two guys to "drop in" on the event.
One of the guys clipped the top of a tree, and hit the ground hard, busting up his leg pretty bad. They flew him to Tampa!
The whole thing was caught on video, and was just on the news down here. I wouldn't doubt that it will be a 30 second splash on the National news, due to it's nature.
Kinda slow here at Jack's, so I thought I would give you this fairly useless account.
