Detroit (-130) at TORONTO
By Justin Palmer, Featured Handicapper

For Thursday take the Tigers up north in Toronto.

There is obviously no question who is the better hurler between Jeremy Bonderman and Scott Downs and that is why we are laying this coin on the road. Bonderman did lose in that last start at home to Jake Westbrook and the Indians and today will kick it up a notch against the Jays as he is a future star and will show that once again.

The Detroit righty has all the makings of a guy who can dominate any lineup at anytime. The Jays continue to play better then expected but they could be shut down today by Bonderman. Meanwhile the lefty Downs isn't going to be shutting anybody down as he is pretty much a guy that is only here because of expansion.

Detroit has been pretty good against the southpaws and I see those righthanded bats coming through here against a guy that is just not very good.

I am not a huge fan of the Tigers pen as they are pretty scary and could implode for sure but I see Bonderman giving us seven or eight very solid innings and Alan Trammel's lineup putting up a bunch of crooked numbers against Downs. It would be an absolute shocker if the Tigers do not win this game and this price is really not that steep at all.

Texas (+160) at YANKEES
By Sports Gambling Hotline's Baseball Staff

What is that smell coming from the Bronx? Oh, it's the New York Yankees.

The Yanks just dropped 2 of 3 at home to the White Sox, scoring a whopping 5 runs in that span. True, the were facing the best team in baseball, but the bottom line is this New York team struggles at the plate, and they most definitely struggle on the mound where they will turn to Scott Proctor to try and get them the win.

Proctor is favored by way too much, as this Texas team does have a few sluggers on their squad. Texas just got humiliated in Boston, but they did plate 18 runs in those 3 losses, and will plate a few more tonight.

John Wasdin may not be able to keep the Yankees in check, but by the end of the night, look for Texas to have more runs on the scoreboard than the fading Yanks.

Cleveland at KANSAS CITY (+195)
By Mike Anthony, Featured Handicapper

If there is one thing my daddy taught me, it is that all good things gotta come to an end.

Tonight I see Cleveland's 5 game winning streak, and Kansas City's 12 game losing streak coming to an end. Hey, it's gotta happen sometime right?

Why not tonight? Kevin Millwood has done nothing but put up an ERA slightly over 3 for the whole season, yet is only 5-9. He has not been supported at all this year, and will not be supported once again tonight. Milllwood did lose a late July start to the Royals while only allowing 2 earned runs in 6 innings. No support at all for the man as you can see.

DJ Carrasco is blossoming into a quality pitcher, and while the Tribe roughed him up in late July, I have to expect the Royals to throw in the kitchen sink as they try and stop this embarrassing losing skid.

Tonight it happens. Play the Royals to end their skid.

St. Louis (-145) at CHICAGO
By Michael Cannon, Featured Handicapper

Your free play today is on Mark Mulder and the Cardinals minus 1 1/2 runs against the pathetic Cubs in an afternoon affair at Wrigley.

Chicago is in major free-fall mode, having lost eight consecutive games and 10 of the last 11. Not only are the Cubs losing, they're looking listless and completely disinterested in the process. How this team could get swept in a three-game series by the Reds, at home, by a combined score of 25-8, is beyond me. Moreover, how Dusty Baker has kept his job is completely unfathomable. Clearly, this team has quit on the toothpick chomper. Just watch the Cubs play; it's a disgrace to the Ryne Sandbergs and Ernie Banks of the franchise's past.

Today, Baker sends Greg Maddux to the mound, and while the future Hall of Famer was sharp in his last start, he still lost 2-0. Mark Mulder gets the nod for the Redbirds, who are 8-0 in the lefty's last eight starts. He's been simply outstanding lately, allowing a total of seven earned runs in his last six starts (39 2/3 innings). Trust me, he'll have NO trouble with this slumping Cubs lineup tonight.

Chicago has lost its last seven games by more than two runs, and that was gainst the Reds, Mets and Phillies. Today, the Cubs have to go up against the best team in the National League (St. Louis has won four in a row and five of six), a red-hot pitcher in Mulder and a rested Albert Pujols (he got the day off Wednesday). That's a recipe for disaster, folks. Lay the 1 1/2 runs and watch the Cards win by at least four.

Let's go with the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Chicago Cubs are just brutal right now. When you get swept by the Mets and the Reds in back to back series, you know you have problems. Don't forget they also lost the last two games of their Series with Philadelphia which puts them on an 8 game losing streak heading into this one this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the Cards come in a 4 game winning streak and Mulder has been light's out over his last 3 starts. The Cardinals are 3-0 in those games and he posted a 2.45 ERA in them.

The Cardinals are 28-9 in the first game of series' this season and that's a number I expect them to improve upon today. Play the Cards with Mulder.

New York Mets at San Diego Padres Aug 11 2005 3:35PM

Prediction: San Diego Padres

Reason: The Mets are 2-4 in Glavine's last 6 road starts. Heading into last night's game the Mets were 21-32 on the road. The Padres are 4-2 in Williams last 6 home starts. Over Woody's last 8 starts vs the Mets his team's record is 7-1. Play on the Padres -.

1 Unit on St. Louis Cardinals -133

The Cardinals are ready to coast into the playoffs, but the more relaxed this team gets it seems the better they play. They've won four in a row and bettered their overall record to 73-41. Even more impressive is that nearly half of their wins have been on the road this year where they are 36-15, by far the best mark in the NL. The Cubs have totally flamed out in the second half of the season. They've now lost 8 in a row and are starting a 3 game series against one of the best teams in baseball. This is a pretty fierce rivalry so the Cubbies might steal one from the Cards, but not against Mark Mulder tonight, he's been amazing lately, undefeated in his last 3 starts with a 2.45 ERA.

5* Cubs +130
**SUPER SELECTION**
Maddux 8-9, 4.57 ERA, It seems as if he's either pitched well and not gotten enough run support -- as in his last outing against the New York Mets -- or he's gotten in a hole quickly.
It will be tough for the veteran to keep his streak of consecutive seasons with at least 15 wins going. He's done so an unprecedented 17 years in a row.
One more win and he'll tie Gaylord Perry for 16th on the all-time list with 314. More important, Maddux would like to get back over .500. He has not finished a season with a losing record since 1987.
The Cubs need a win. They've lost eight in a row, matching their longest skid of the season, and are six games below .500, which is a season high. Or low.
Derrek Lee probably can't wait to face Mulder. Lee is 7-for-7 in his career against the left-hander, and all the hits have been singles.

5* Yankees -165
Scott Proctor takes the mound for New York, making his first Major League start after pitching out of the bullpen for the last two seasons. The Yankees should get 4 maybe 5 quantity innings from Scott. In limited work this year (15 appearances), Proctor has produced a 5.16 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP in 23 innings pitched.
Proctor will be opposed by John Wasdin, another long reliever making a spot start.
Alex Rodriguez has faced Wasdin more than any other Yankees player, and likely relishes the chance to hit against him again. A-Rod has eight hits, including four home runs and a double, and seven RBIs in 21 at-bats. Watch out for A-Rod you Rangers!

5* Rockies Under 11.5
The Pirates and Rockies are two lost causes, some days showing up to play, some not. Today will be a not day!
