Franky I have a Tommy Armour 3 wood that a friend gave to me. It has rails on the bottom which makes it very easy to hit high and from light rough. I really like Taylor Mades new 3 wood though. They are making some great stuff right now. I hit Pro Vs

I have an old TaylorMade R580 3 wood as well as one that I built, an Ashton X-1d with a True Temper BiMatrix shaft. Carry driver (SMT 455db 8*), 3w, 19* hybrid (RescueMid TP), 4-p, gw/sw/lw, putter. I have been getting into clubbuilding the last year or so, so I have really tweaked a lot of my clubs from how they came in my set. Currently playing the Nike Platinum.

6'5, I'm on staff with Hogan now and hit there hybrid 1 iron and 3 iron. Have to agree with Agent here. They are the way to go. IMO Nike will make one soon and you will see it in Tigers bag. Could be wrong, but it's the way golf is going. Anyway, if you see a hogan hybrid you like let me know and I'll see if I can get you any help on prices. JP

Thanks for the offer, JP. I'm sure it's comparable to the Callaway and Cobra (I even hit a cheapo Knight that I liked), and I'm all for getting good deals. Let me know.

I hit a buddy's cobra baffler 3/20, and hit it well every time. What other club makers make a club like this? Any recommendations?

also, is there a website where you can see what the pros are carrying? WOuld be interesting.

that's the same hybrid i have, it has a slight offset, but so do the rest of my clubs. love it. two buddies hit it, and now the same club is in their bag.

not too bad pricewise compared to some others either - i think about 120.

JP what driver do you hit?

Going back and forth right now from the new Hogan driver and my old trustee 983K. Like the new Hogan but kinda hit a floater with it. Prefer the lower, boaring trajectory of the K. How about you Agent?

6'5, let me get some prices together and I"ll respond back in this thread.

The shaft is everything guys just ask your ladies :mj07:

I can hit the new R7 seriously about 30 yards longer than my Cobra but havent messed with it enough to find one I can hit the fairway with and work both ways like I can the Cobra. Will probably be buying al new driver, 3 wood and 2 Hybrids from Taylor Made some time around late October. What does the Hogan driver look like? Dont recall seeing it.

JP, I have a couple of questions since I was a collegiate golfer years ago and still am an old tradionalist.

I know there will be some doubters but I got the Cleveland Launcher 460cc with the blue Graffaloy shaft this year. I hit this thing LONG, consistently carry it 290-320 but extremely high even with a 8.5 loft. Love the forgiveness on the new technology, you can see the different spin ratios on misshots from old clubs. This is a great shaft but would like a little lower trajectory. Most courses are kept pretty watered, not like the speed fairways on the tour.

My real question is towards irons. I play with copper Ping Eye 2, the 2-6 and I play with Wilson Staff Blades from 7-W. What do you recommend for a good set of irons that are on the market, ones that will be pretty easy to move from my current. These copper Pings are worth some money now, I bought the 1-Sw years ago, all with matching serial numbers for $500. They are worth much more now. They are still very sweet, especially the long irons but the short irons are too soft and go straight up in the air.

Where are you now? The last time we communicated, you were in a resort a little outside of Dallas. I was living out there last year but have since moved back to Nashville. Its HOT here but not like the Texas heat plus not as windy.

Thanks for the input!

Hey Dunclock, hope all is well in Tennessee. I have a couple of different answers for you depending on what you are looking for. I currently hit the BH Apex 50. I started playing this blade this year and have really enjoyed them. I would definitely recommend them for your lower irons. If you are looking at the mix&match set then I would wait until next month when the new Ping i5 irons come out. I hit them this morning with the Ping rep and they are phenomenal. Much like the i3+ with a little weight distribution. Very very easy to hit and the retail on the iron is a very reasonable price. (sorry, I don't have those numbers yet.) Although I am on staff with Hogan, I am a big believer in Ping and what they do, I believe there technology is head and shoulders above the competition.

As far as the driver is concerned, that is a great shaft. I don't know alot about it but it would be my recommendation to talk to someone with a little more knowledge that could get you lined out with a low kick shaft. The shaft Agent has in the picture above is a Grafalloy Pro lite and is my personal favorite. Low kick point also. You might look into that.

By the way, I'm at White Bluff Resort outside of Dallas if I can help with anything else, just shoot me an email. JP

BTW....Agent, go hit the Ping G5 driver, they moved some weight to the back of the driver off the G2 to lower spin, and its incredible.

Thanks JP, to be honest with you I cant stand Ping and I think they sell some of the biggest junk on the market. I hate to disagree with you but when I was in college I ordered some Ping Eye 2 irons. When they came in I told the guy that does all my club repair and he said you better bring them in and let me check them out. So I did and they were all supposed to be 2 degrees flat. Well guess what they were everywhere from 3 degrees upright to 3 degrees flat :scared They were all over the map, not to mention the lofts were all jacked up where a 9 iron was pretty much an 8 to convince you how much farther you were hitting it. Now you would think that maybe this was a one time deal that happened years ago but just two weeks ago a buddy of mine got a new set supposedly ordered to his specs. Same thing, the swing weight and lies were all over the map. Any dealings like this in the past JP? Just remember guys just because you get fitted and order something a certain way doesnt mean these companies who make thousands of clubs a day will follow through. HAVE THEM CHECKED! On your recomendation I will hit that driver though :)

Wow, hate to hear that. Haven't played a whole lot of ping in the past 4 years Agent, just because everything has been free from other companies. Guess I can't really say I have had a different experience because while in high school never really understood what alot of that stuff meant. Never would mean to ever give a bad recommendation though. I agree with what you said though about making sure everything gets checked, from low handicapper all the way to high handicappers, that kinda stuff matters.

Well Im singling out Ping only because they seem to mess it up EVERY time. Lots of these mass manufacturers do it that way though. Alot of X stiff shafts are actually regular and vice versa and so on. Im sure you have hit some of that. Certainly dont mean to say you are giving a bad recomendation. Just pointing out be careful when you buy something and get it checked for sure.

if any of you have a good driver you'd like to part with, let me know. I still like mine, and I hit it fairly well, but the technology has far surpassed it. It's a 96/97 model Taylor Made titanium with 8.5* loft. I'm pretty sure it's the one that followed the Ti and the Ti Bubble 2. I've hit a few newer drivers, and they all seem to be so much more forgiving.

Thanks JP, when we spoke last year you were at White Bluff. I remember they did a lot of advertising back in Dallas, looks like a real nice place there.

Probably the best thing for me to do is find a demo day and try several of the new models. Always thought Hogan made some good irons over the years. Have head some good things on the Nike irons {haven't hurtTiger any}. Tried the Ping !3 couple of years when they came out, never could find a consistent sweet spot, ie, one time 7 iron goes 160, the next time 180. I do appreciate the feedback...

SixFive, i used the original Callaway Big Bertha til this year switching to the Cleveland Launcher. For the money, $299, I think the best driver on the market. I hit it a little farther, but the technology over the last years is phenomenal. You will detect it within 5 swings. Also, for the money the Taylor Made 500 series, especially the 580 model are great values for the money. They have so much invested in the R7 line that the other models are way down in price. Good luck!

Got a couple sets of berlium ping eye 2's originals (no + or drill spot on back)I'd part with for $500 bucks or would trade 9 thru 2 for LW SW and PW wedge of same.

You got time to play some today or tomorrow Clint?

Agent and others;

Hit my buddies Rescue (Taylor Made) WOW, what a difference over my 2/3 iron! Going out to take a look at new clubs today. Thought I would bring this back to the forefront, especially since Jack has a new stick, lol :mj07:

Any other advice?

Franky :)
