Think about this:

I own 2 LCD TV's that I bought at COSTCO.......I have taken others back to upgrade to the 2 I currently own, both Phillips. COSTCO has NO time limit on returns. I owned my first one and after 6 months I took it back because the newer model had better picture quality. I would not consider buying a TV anywhere but Costco, just because of there unbelievable return policy. They carry Sony, JVC, Phillips and others.

I have a 52" JVC DILA and would highly recommend it. I got it in January of '05 just before the Super Bowl. Watched the game in HD for the fisrt time and was blown away. Picture was incredible. I have a DTV HD receiver with an off air atenna for local HD broadcasts. The down side is that regular shows not broadcast in HD are quite poor in quality, but the HD broadcasts are awesome. I am looking forward to a full year of HD football.

Jack..........My Phillips are both 32" so it's not that bad. The 50" would be a challenge but my point was there's no time limit. Most places like Circuit City /Best Buy might give you a month. I took a HP printer back to Costco after 2 years because it was so slow and they didn't question it. I did have my reciept which did help.

This is Costco's return policy:

Returns or Exchanges

Costco guarantees your satisfaction with the merchandise you purchase from us. Costco.com products may be returned to any of our hundreds of Costco warehouses worldwide. Or, if you wish to return or exchange merchandise directly to costco.com, contact us at customer service.

Effective November 4th, 2002, Costco Wholesale?s desktop and notebook computer return policy is six-months from the date of purchase. After six-months from the date of purchase, all service and technical support will be subject to the applicable remaining manufacturers' warranty.

Sentence #1 is the key !!!!!!!

Pioneer and Panasonic are probably as good as it gets when it comes to Plasma right now. Pioneer are a bit pricey but very asthetically pleasing while Panasonic are probably the best quality for a more reasonable price.

Not saying there are not other greats plasma TV's out there but I have a friend who installs custom home theater systems for a living so this is based on many discussions with him and also my own research.

Plasma is better than LCD but LCD is very good if you want something a cheaper. He also says although Sony products are good, they are generally overpriced as you are paying for the name most of the time. For the record, he also says Bose speakers are way overpriced and that he installs speakers that are just as good if not better for half the cost of Bose.

lcdtvs.com is a good site for competitive pricing.

I don't agree with plasma being the superior product. Plasma is the right choice relative to most consumer's needs.

I have a Sharp 45" lcd. You will get more bang for your buck by purchasing a plasma for 40"> screens. But if you want to use it as a monitor, gaming, and place it in a bright sunlit room...lcd might be a better option.

The avs forum is a good starting point for research.

Do go to Avs forums and do your research. Very knowledgalbe poeple there willing to help. I just bought a sony KDF-50A10 lcd projection tv and could not be happier the sports in hd is quite spectacular. I have been looking at tv's for allmost a year now and decided on this one. Very tough decision. Do like the plasmas but was some what worried about the life length. Good luck in what ever you choose.
