Again I'll say it. If you dont think Dick Cheney was behind this leak you are very ignorant.

Is there any word on whether Fitz is going to convene another Grand Jury? There was talk of that, as this one cannot serve any more time. I had heard that he had rented office space locally in Washington for two years. I suppose it could just be for the court case against Scooter. Just wondering if anyone heard anything on that specifically.

when nixon had his problems....i thought it was a day of celebration......but as i got older i realized that i was wrong to celebrate a person's downfall & now feel it was a dark moment in our history as it was when clinton had his problems...& again today.....these people in power never learn that they are not above the law....it pisses me off !!

I think you are dead on, AR182. It took me a long time to face the Clinton situation and stop defending it and saying it was no big deal. I realized it WAS a big deal when I had to explain it to my kids, and started thinking about the higher standard of behavior that a President and his administration should be held to. Saying it's no big deal here at home or abroad really does not hit the mark in my mind. Although I don't think his transgressions are as bad as Nixon's, Reagan's or the current situation for our country, they are of major issue when looked at from a moral standpoint. I don't think it affected his judgement or ability to lead, but it certainly did affect him after the fact, when he had to spend so much time on it.

Wrong is wrong. Lying is lying. Bad for all.

Guys what about a plea deal. Anyone think the Reb's want a trial going on next year with 06 elections coming. Looks like Scooter will be asked to jump on the sword and ask for mercy.
I would say maybe 2 to 4 years in a country club prison. Hey give him some credit he saved some ones ass. But I would be very surprised to see any trial.

yes, dr. freeze. deflect the blame on someone who didn't commit the crime. is that how this will now be spun? not to copy dtb's mo too much, but i think i recall an awful lotta right wingers laughing and celebrating clinton's situation.

personally - i feel the crime is what's sick. i generally always laugh my ass off at people when they get caught - they deserve it. ...and anyway - catching someone is progress - and progress is worth celebrating. for that reason, this is a good day. :)

actually i know zero conservatives who celebrated clinton....most of us were disgusted

any CEO who exhibited such behavior would be fired in a heartbeat...for some reason, the guy stayed in there

looks like this Libby character got fired as he should have and we will see what happens in the hearings

i know little other than it is really a bunch of partisan bickering as most knew this lady was CIA, but if the guy lied that is a different story under oath

you will find no true conservative defending anyone for lying under oath and if he is guilty of this, he should be put away for as long as the law allows...just as Clinton should have

Actually it's a great day for America since it shows that no one is above the law and our law system actually does work! I am also very angry that these dirt bags would consider themselves above the law and stoop to such low life levels out of spite!

i am angry too, and i felt the same way about Clinton

absolute no happiness whatsoever, only disgust

however, it is not a great day for America as we now have less and less confidence in our leaders

that is not good...it is bad...we are electing crooks year in and year out and its a reflection of our country

I agree we shouldn't be happy or celebratory... BUT we should be glad more and more truth is coming out. the sad fact being...

Rove and Cheney are untouchable. I was hoping one of them would be exposed.

Scooter makes a deal. No trial. Believe he made have helped save Roves butt. Cheney continues as a hidden person brought in to the light once a month to make some written speech. Then back in his hole he goes.

Nothing to really celebrate. It is only the tip of the ice berg. Most of us know these guys are the worst bunch of scoundrels to infiltrate our government in our history. It will not be a time for celebration until they are all thrown out and the messes they have made are cleaned up. I. Lewis Scooter Libby is just the beginning and if the American people allow it to end there it will be a shame.

Now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine:

'Scooter' Libby (search) can take heart in the fact that recent administration officials facing indictments have survived the ordeal relatively unscathed.

The Washington Post reports that Reagan Labor Secretary Raymond Donovan ? indicted on grand larceny charges ? and National Security aide Thomas Reed ? indicted for illegal stock trading ? were acquitted in their trials.

So were Clinton Agriculture Secretary Mike Espy ? indicted for corruption ? and Travel Office Chief Billy Dale.

Clinton Housing Secretary Henry Cisneros pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor after being indicted on 18 felony counts, but went on to head Spanish-language television giant Univision.

And while Reagan National Security adviser John Poindexter was convicted on Iran-Contra related charges, that conviction was overturned and Poindexter went on to run the Pentagon's Advance Research Agency under the current President Bush.

Blanco to Blame?

Newly released memos reveal that the bodies of Hurricane Katrina victims went uncollected for more than a week in New Orleans as federal officials waited for Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco (search) to decide what to do with them.

A week after the storm hit, Army Col. John Jordan wrote federal officials that despite pressure from FEMA, Louisiana was in a state of "operations paralysis" on collecting the remains of those killed.

A spokesman for Blanco agrees that there was paralysis but says, "it was on the part of FEMA."

Minor Setback?

An overnight Gallup Poll reveals that 42% of Americans are pleased that Harriet Miers (search) withdrew from Supreme Court consideration, while only 35% said they were disappointed.

Though some conservatives were sharply critical of Miers' nomination, only 34% of them said they were happy to see her withdraw, compared to 55% of liberals who said they were pleased by the decision.

Meanwhile, just 16% of those polled called Miers' withdrawal a major setback for the president. Seventy six percent called it a minor setback or no setback at all.
