think about this: If the big ten would have had 5 teams ranked in the top 16(meaning 5 strong teams!!) Would there have been 2 in BCS bowls?(PROBABLY NOT) Would there have been 2 in top 5? (PROBABLY NOT) Why? Because there would have probably been more losses between the teams as there would have been better competition!! Hence like the SEC!
okay the way I see is that:
- Bama isn't that much better of a team then Wiscy, Mich, and/or Iowa...I mean who did they even play last year, their non-conference games were a joke...and they only beat TT by 3 points in the bowl game whom isn't much better then an Northwestern
-Auburn the SEC's best in conference team record wise getting smacked in the mouth by Wiscy the thrid best Big Ten team...they loss their season opener non-conference to Georgia Tech and we all saw how good that 7-5 team was against Utah
-Bulldogs one of the better teams for the SEC ranked about where they belong but once again only a 7 point win against 7-5 GT and the other non-conference game against WV which was basically at home was a loss...the SEC champion losing to the Big East champion and the Big East is a terrible conference so whats they say about the SEC champion...You would think the big bad SEC champ would have beaten up on the dinky Big East champ...well we all know that wasn't the case
-LSU another good SEC team that belongs where they are ranked...but just because they crushed an 9-3 Miami team doesn't make them great...try beating them when they have an 30 some game win streak in the NC...thats a great win against Miami...they did have a four point win against 7-5 ASU a non-conference game but then again it was only 7-5 team...and they also lost to a terrible Tenn team and to Geroriga for the SEC a game LSU was better off staying in the locker room for
-The Gators, okay well at least we have one SEC team that plays a good non-conference game every season...Even though they beat Iowa I think if they were to play Mich and/or Wiscy it would be close games...Just cause Florida beat FSU and PSU only lost to FSU by four does NOT mean that Florida could hang with PSU
-The Cocks the SEC sixth best team would struggle against Northwestern and I seriously doubt they could beat the Big Tens other six...but Spurrier will have this program on the up and up over the next few years...they did have a non-conference game against Clemson which they loss
Okay, so instead of saying the SEC is the second best conference I should just say teams in the SEC are OVER-RATED and several teams shouldn't be ranked where they are due to weak non-conference games...Start scheduling some better non-conference games during the season then maybe the SEC might get that title of "strongest conference"...but until then they're not at the top...and I'll take those top two Big Ten teams against any of those SEC teams any day of the week...the SEC doesn't play anyone besides teams within their conference and then they have the balls to self proclaim themselves to be the strongest conference...why?...You can't get a good measure of an conference because they don't schedule themselves against any non-conference creditable teams...oh wait their is one Florida vs FSU...but you criticized PSU for their close game with 8-5 FSU so I guess we can deem FSU as not a creditable non-conference game either...plain and simple teams in the SEC is over-rated and we'll never really know how good that conference is until they start scheduling some meaningful non-conference games
