The last time I saw officiating that bad was when Maryland played Duke in the 2001 Final Four.

1) the push off in the end zone was bogus. simply not a good call. that kind of stuff goes on during every single wide receiver/defensive back matchup during the course of a game. very bad call

pushing off is illegal in football but it happens very often & is never called.......however the ref had to call this because it happened right in front of him.....that was the only reason why he called it....

had a few bucks on seattle and a litte more on the under. was happy to make a couple of dollars.
the fix talk is nonsense. the officiating wasn't great by any stretch but steelers made enough plays to win and cover.

imo, thats really what the game came down to. pittsburgh made the plays.
seattle didn't.
it's obvious that a lot of myopic steelers fans still are convinced that seattle had no business on the field with them today. seattle outplayed the steelers for the majority of the game (in terms of the consistency of offensive production). but pittsburgh made the "impact plays". nobody dominated anybody, nor is one team head and shoulders above the other.

steelers made the plays that mattered and deserved to cover. and the fix talk is nonsense, just as is the talk that pittsburgh is clearly the better team.

its not gonna go down as the prettiest super bowl in nfl history, but it was watchable and the two teams involved were evenly matched. steelers did enough to cover and the game was pretty much a dead under.

.... let's move on to next year :mj06:

Just didn't look like a coin flip this time either man!

Yep there is always next year!

agreed. Early in the game, single focus of attention for a ref, and wide receiver lobbying result in a late call. Bottom line? Seahags get a FG and only lose 4 points out of the deal.

Hags had PLENTY of chances after that. Losing out on 4 points in the first quarter doesnt negate an 11 point loss.

Bottom line is Seattle has a 1st and goal at the 2 when Levy called a phantom hold, even Madden said so. next play or 2 they throw an interception. 14 pt turnaround and the BUS gets his red carpet..

Rothelsbueraekjietqiudjf also gave away a TD on his second pick, inside the 5, which led DIRECTLY to Seattle's ONLY TOUCHDOWN!!

When Pitt got that pick, and scored afterwards, they were just getting that one back. Still won by 11, after EXCHANGING turnovers for scores. Did it really matter?

CMON D....WORTHLESBERGER Didn't throw that INT this game gets totally out of hand....Add 7 and take away 7 for the Seadogs....Or you could give the SeaDogs 7 for that first half throw....Either way this one goes DD....

The truth is.....ABSOLUTELY NO WAY YOU COULD FEEL COMFY BETTING AGAINST THE LERS ON THIS ONE!!!!!

4-1 LERS FAN FAVOR TOO!!!!

you people who are downplaying the conspiracy/fix thing here are really very naive. the game was fixed, period.

not as in 'ok boys, the final score's going to be 26-23, with Pitt scoring a touchdown late to win it' that's not possible to engineer with all the variables.

but what IS possible is...'take the wind out of the seahawks sails early. act like your flags are flares, and your ship is going down. launch those bad boys if you see anything remotely negligible.'

i will say it again. momentum is everything. and the zebras were hell-bent against seattle getting any early. if not for those 'officials' this game would have been a repeat of last weeks dismantling of carolona. it was the most monumentous, laughable, vomit-inducing display of officiiating i've ever seen, and probably ever will. the funny part? i had 40 dollars on this game. so this isn't about money.

say what you will about your impact plays G-man. you can't put a spin on what was blatantly obvious to anyone with any knowledge and/or experience watching NFL games.

i lost alot of respect for the NFL tonight.

and by the way. if this kind of shiat can happen in salt lake city, it can happen anywhere. what was the problem in salt lake city? of course. the officiating. they just happend to get exposed, is all. that would never happen to what is the multi-billion conglomerate that is the NFL.

while i'm on a roll...what was up with all of the commercials showing various pitt players posing with the Lombardi trophy? there was what, four of them? I am going to re-cap for you, g-man, ok little buddy?

Play #1: The 'Push Off' for -7 (really 4) points - Bullshiat

Play #2: The spot on the 3rd down for Seattle. You could even see the official look toward the sideline before he spotted the ball. Why FARKING LOOK! Spot the ball, do your job!

Play #3: The phantom holding call on one of the punts that cost them 25 yards of field position.

Play #4: Little Ben's 'Touchdown Dive' I've seen plays way more cut and dry that that where the 'officials' took 3 times as long to make a decision. Sure, it will be argued for years, but come on.

Play #5: The Pit time out that was clearly delay of game. 'Oops, we missed one, boys.'

Play #6: The second phantom holding call with the Hawks on the 1, about to score, while Ward gets away with a fare more blatant play on the previous possession. Even Madden, in his primary stages of Alzzheimers, caught that bullshiat.

enough already. you get the point.

Yeh, sure the Steelers got the calls ( I had some coin on Pitts) but that's how it goes sometimes. This season was the year of the fave, so this outcome is sorta fitting. Now, '06 is the Chinese Year of the Dog...maybe the worm will turn.

good stuff guys. theres been some valid points raised on both sides. good thread.

tubby-

im not particularly sure why youre gettin all worked up and pissed off at me over my post.

i had a seattle ticket and certainly would have liked to see them cover. didn't happen though.

socrtstud-

steelers fans are inherently myopic. they thought before the game (and still think after the game) that they were some buzzsaw and that seattle wasn't worthy of being on the field with them. the seahawks proved otherwise. game was there for the taking. but i still feel like the steelers made the impact plays, and thats what decided the game. but somebody else in another thread put it most succinctly -- seattle dominated the game between the 20s but pittsburgh made more big plays and that was the diff. credit pitt for that; however this was a very even game

haha....Yeah it was pretty even, I'm not going to lie....it was one of the better ones....I wouldn't stretch it as far as myopic....but good word...

I still will always know that though being a lers fan, In my mind I fealt like I just wasn't convinced that the seahawks proved themselves to have an edge over the burgh.....I wouldn't say it was a coinflip that's all, but i guess you could call me a homer....

GL on the rest of your plays GMAN....will look out for your NCAABB plays...GL

Penguin man, let it gooooooo....The lers are a great team......, This is the deal, us little people have absolutely no control over what has happend and will never have control so don't worry about it....There will be more games....

misinterpereted, just frustrating to see people try to put a spin on what really happened. and I think we all know what really happened .

I guess a final score is a final score, though. good night all.
