Al zarqawi was a Sunni. He was involved in a lot of killing of Shiites. Sadaam was a Sunni. Why was Al zarqawi killing so many of his own religion? Are Shiites and Sunnis totally different? What is the breakdown of the 2 in the country now? Where do the Kurds fit in? Is this just in Iraq, or is this all over the globe, ie, at the mosque here in town (yes, we have a Muslim mosque), are they all Shiites, or does that not apply. Thanks for any responses.

Is a Palestinian not a muslim? I thought he was a Sunni that liked to kill Shiites?

Wayne, the mosque we have is out Veteran's Memorial within a half mile of the big waterpark. The design looks straight out of the Middle East. You can't miss it if you're close.

these are the basics

Sunni Muslims are the overwhelming majority nearly one billion. these are much more liberal.

Shiite Muslims around 200 million, much more strict, majority in Iran also Palestine & Iraq.

Difference has goes way back to Mohammed death. Mohammed wishes were for the power to go to his daughter husband Ali, these ended up being Shiite.

Their was something of a political overthrow, and majority (Sunni) followed this guy Abu Bakr.

Kurds, are not Arabs, mainly from Turkey, but maturity are Sunni Muslim.

"the bunker"
he was a jordanian sunni...... trying to foment full scale civil war.......

the arab world is majority sunni...but not in iraq(even though they had total control under saddam)...the" iranians" aren`t even arabs...they`re persians...shi`ite persians...thus,the constant tension(and war) between iran and iraq....

he wanted to undermine the new government...so that the u.s. fails....the iranians have a similar goal...

then,my guess would be that he would try and help the sunni`s reestablish control(a more fundamentalist, religious sunni rule than was under saddam)...while the iranians aid the shi`ites...

he`s no fan of ahmadinnerjacket...who will work to establish shi-ite control of iraq if we leave....

if we leave abruptly or fail,it`s hard to imagine the level of mass murder that will take place...

the good...the terrorists are actually occupied to a certain extent in iraq...there`s some truth to that...

the bad..both factions...the "extreme" islamists on both sides... do have a common goal in seeing that a unity government can never be established in iraq....it undermines both factions of extremists...
