Yo' Saul - While in Scotland, treat yourself to some literature on the "Scottish Enlightenment" or any of the discertations by David Hume.

You can thank me later.

"Any glen will do." - Swingers

Thanks for representing, Finster. ...And Weasel - I toured many pubs in England, including one during the horrendous Portugal game. There were more red crosses on shirts and flags and painted faces than I could count. Whatever source told you that flying the English cross was banned was clearly not actually in England. You may want to scrutinize your media of choice in the same manner as you do the Times.

Buddy, I'll have to look into Hume from America. It's at the top of my list .....although I actualy have to decide to read literature first. It could happen I reckon. God knows I can't stand TV or radio anymore. By default, I just may give reading a chance afterall.

Pretty nice to escape American news media for a while. Seemed much .....quieter. I don't want to get back in the loop. Probably won't contribute much on this forum other than SBTB analogies as a result. Much happier that way.

In conclusion, if you have the chance - go to Iceland. Once there, rent a car and drive around the country. The landscapes are straight outta Land of the Lost ...or the Moon. Just make sure to be in Reykjavik for the weekend - cuz...damn. I've never seen a group of people drink so much who can't really handle it. You sorta wanna tell them to take it easy, but then it's funny to watch them fall apart. This goes on til about 10 am on the weekends. And it never gets dark (at this time of year). It really screws your system up. No sleep, little food, lots of drinks. Yo'd think 6 years of living in Vegas would prepare me - but I was a dead man walking when I left there. Plenty of time for sleeping when I'm dead.

OK, carry one with the political shite....

Sorry, AR. Was only able to get one postcard out - and that had to go to a girl. Of course it was an Iceland postcard sent from Scotland. I tend to not get around to mailing stuff from one place until I'm in the next place.

Political issues in Iceland:

1) American naval base closing. Most locals don't want this to happen. Funny, we stay where not wanted and leave from places we are liked. No Cold War, no need for strategic North Atlantic base any longer ...so say our wise leaders.

2) Whale hunting. They want to do it and don't think the man should be keeping em down. They are only about 1/750th the size of Japan so probably wouldn't be able to endanger any of the species with a modest level of hunting. I have no opinion.

3) EU or no EU? They are against joining because it would compromise their amazingly high standard of living. The EU would dilute their economy and force them to take in more immigrants. With only 300,000 and lots of land, the locals could easily get overrun with Euro influx.

4) On the same lines, they have had to bring in immigrant workers anyway. So it turns out Iceland's Mexicans are Poles. Polish are taking all the blue collar fishery and factory work that spoiled natives are now too good for. The Poles are regarded as a lower class. It's too bad - had a few drinks with a couple cool Poles and it was a blast.

5) ...What else....not much. It's Iceland afterall. How many big issues can they have?

As I drove around, I realized - this is a modern country with built up infrastructure. They all speak English and drive on the right side of the road. Their island is full of the most amazing landscapes I've ever seen. They have no idea how overrun with American tourism they could be. It will happen.
