Hey guys -

I was just looking for some input from some of you:D  :D I am traveling out to California in March for about a week and going to stay in the LaQuinta/Palm Springs area at the LaQuinta Resort. Is this area pretty nice? What airport am I best off flying into? What are some of the best things to do besides golfing? Are there wineries nearby? Any feedback would be appreciated! Thanks!

I can help a little.

First, if you cannot fly into Palm Springs Intl., you need to fly into Ontario Intl. It's about an hours drive to the desert from there but the airfare is much cheaper as it's a larger airport.

Secondly, La Quinta is an old school sprawling resort. It's first-class and you should enjoy it. It is NOT a high rise type of hotel. Some rooms are literally "bungalows" and are located among the attached buildings. Tennis courts on the property and of course 2 golf courses on site as well as a bunch within 5 miles. PGA West has 5 courses, some within walking distance.

Sunday Brunch is great, but there are other brunch places I prefer nearby.

There is not much to do on property at night. But, nightlife is only a short drive. A good sports bar is up the street about 2 miles. It gets a good crowd on the weekends, including hotties. A number of PGA tour players go in there and I've seen other athletes as well. John Brodie (S.F. 49er fame) was a regular there until his recent health problems.

All in all, I like the place but it's not my favorite. You will not be disappointed.

Enjoy your trip....leave your parka at home..... :142smilie l

kneifl..

when you go to palm springs make sure you take the cable ride up some mountain where you have a panoramic view of the city...also the weather up in this mountain drops about 40-50 degrees. and the place where you buy the tickets sells sweaters for this trip.

enjoy.

fly into palm springs or ontario

golf-pga west is in la quinta-play the stadium course

there are a number a places for dinner.....mortons, lg's are two great steak places nearby, las casuelas for mexican is also good (best one is in palm springs but that's about a 30 min drive)

nightlife-casinos are all over the place, if you want to see hot womes, costas at the jw marriott in palm desert is always a great place, esp in march. downtown palm springs on palm canyon drive is always fun (where las casuelas is located) and there is a casino there as well.

shopping-el paseo drive in palm desert (think rodeo drive) offers a bunch of high end shops and some resturaunts nearby (miguels for mexican, lg's for steaks)

other than that, it's sit by the pool, get a tan, and order drinks all day.

If you have ever swung a club, u gotta play at PGA west, I cannot remember if the Palmer course is public or not, but if it is, this is the best and most scenic course of the 5 or 6. If not I would say its a toss up between the Nick Tourney or like GJN said, The Stadium, both of which are public.

I prefer ruth chris' steak house over LJs, but both are very good. The beer hunter is a pretty popular hangout, its a sports bar with pool tables and good food. That is just up the street from you, off of Washington I think.

Like spursd and gjn said there are alot of casinos. Agua caliente is ok, Trump 29 is just as close and I have heard good things from that. If you are flying into Ontario, you will pass Casino Morongo and Agua on your way to laquinta.

I love going to palm springs, my buddy has 2 houses in the pga west track and the golfing cant be beat. Oh and if you are a fisherman, we fish the lakes on the pga courses and we pull in 3 and 4 lb bass regularly

i almost forgot kniefl, but if you have heard of benihanas or like the japanese cuisine where they make the dishes in fron of you, go to Hibatchi's. It is smaller but very similar to Benihana's and get the lobster and steak special, it will be the best 40 bucks you spend in Palm Springs.
