Just got back and REALLY appreciate ALL that it offers especially as I get older and hopefully wiser.
I remember when I was a testosterone filled younger person...how I had a ....say ....different more self-centered perspective.
Just wondering how many Madjackers value an organized religion and participate actively???
......OH,...I may even get more winners :mj07: only kidding.........
Hey, Have a GREAT DAY!

We're leaving in just a few minutes. It's good family time. We go with the out-laws. They love being around their grandkids. My wife, kids and out-laws are all Catholic. I'm odd man out. They keep asking me to go through RCIA to become Catholic but it goes for like, 40 weeks....ugh!

Maybe later. :mj07:

I do feel bad when I'm sittin' there though and the choir sings, "Eat this bread". Everytime they start singing it, my wife looks over at me, rolls her eyes because she knows I'm singing, "Beat the spread". It's hilarious! :mj07:

You will CHERISH those family times and come to really VALUE all that you are doing for yourself, the in-laws and especially your children...
My lovely wife....influenced me...in much the same way and 35 years later...it was the best thing that ever happened to me..and my kids.
GL...and enjoy it NOLE!

Count me in, too. It takes my mind (at least for awhile) off my problems and makes me more fully appreciate the good things in life.

thinking alot lately about going. never really have attended church before except for weddings & funerals. i would like to find one that isnt overpowering and ultra strict. dont have any family except for a couple of aunts that live far away, so its kind of awkward for me to go by myself. looking.

I don't mean to (or want to!) offend anyone, but church doesn't make a lot of sense to me...

...I mean, from a faith/belief/worship pov, what's the difference b/w praying at home or in a church?
(Actually, pretty much all churches are in direct breach of one of the commandments too...but I digress...)
...and if you're going just for the company, why not join a sporting/card/bingo/book club?

I can see the "guidence and values" argument...but surely that's what parents do anyway?

I don't belong to a church or believe in religion, but I was raised Lutheran, and every Christmas Eve I do attend services with my Mother. I know it means the world to her, and I figure that even if I don't personally believe in it, it's not too much to ask to give up one hour of one day out of the year to do something that is so important to the woman who raised me.

Catholic here. I really get a lot out of Mass each week.

Actually, I am a friend's sponsor going through RCIA. It started this past week and is pretty much every Tuesday night from now until Easter. Big committment, but I think I will learn as much as he does.

I went through a period for about 8 years where I was passionately Agnostic (or whatever you want to call it). That all changed about 6 years ago, and because I went through my questioning phase I think my faith is stronger now.

Just the opposite of Rex, I'm actually a deacon in the Catholic church. Was ordained about 1 1/2 years ago.:142hail:

Much Respect Pirate Fan....
In my life I cannot think of a better gift and identity that was inspired by my wife, to have given our children.
The gifts that I and my family have been given through religion include:
1. Faith..in a higher power or being or level of contiousness and given our imperfections, something to strive for and a model to follow as best we can. I would HATE to think that we represent the highest form of existence.
2. Hope..for all good things coming..In our darkest hours..we ALWAYS have the promise of growth, goodness, and help on the way.
3.Charity...A gift of perfecting our spirit or self by acting in a more selfless manner and living more to help those in need as we are able to..
Witness ...Box and One getting it done this year and the WONDERFUL outpouring of giving... THEN the GREAT FEELINGS that participants felt afterward......
In addition ....a community of great people who will help in any situation...and so much more.
Sure.....one can do and believe all these things and benefit from them without a church....BUT
to REALLY do it ...the organization, the group, the identity, really help me out!
