Google Inc. is making its word processing and spreadsheet programs available for free to all comers on its Web site, marking the Internet search leader's latest effort to provide an alternative to Microsoft Corp's dominant software applications.

I have tried them before and didn't immediately care for it.

I downloaded a suite on my wife's computer, though, that works pretty well. I will see if I can find link.

I think Google has been more about getting a lot of stuff out there as opposed to quality stuff.

Then I'm going to have to guess you have never tried there google mail, google earth, or google calendar?

I've been using there e-mail program for the past 6 months and it is the most useful email program i have ever had. It indexes every email you ever get and I put in a simple search and bam there is the e-mail with the info I wanted that I got 3 months ago.

It also has google calendar which is extremely useful in school. I am an MBA and we all share our calendars with each other and it helps us arrange meetings and see when we are all available. A great tool.

Google is awesome

I have gmail. I think google earth is cool, but not very many practical uses for commoners like me. i have not used google calendar.

I will also say that I don't agree with the YouTube purchase.

But they're doing something right. ;)

google throws alot of programs/features against the wall and hope they stick. If not they just move on. Definately a different type of business plan and they have been criticized a bit for not trying to develop things more..while they prefer the quantity over quality approach.
