Top Ten Signs You're a Fundamentalist Christian

I'm passionate about the subject, and studying religion and philosophy is a hobby I developed a couple years ago (after having studied religion for years in HS and undergrad).

Go get'um. You remind me of myself at your age. Its fun at first, but after a while I got tired of it. Nothing gets resolved. Faith is faith and reason is reason. They are two non-intersecting planes. The debate sharpens your argument skills, though. I see a career as an attorney in your future, and then...politics. Take us non-believers to the promised land!

Fundamentalists believe the Bible is the be all, end all. It is perfect. They believe the earth is 4,000 years old, Adam and Eve were the first two humans, etc. In other words, they are the ones that read the Bible, and take it literally.

Thanks Gary
Am certainly a Christian but wasn't sure about the Fundamentalist. I believe we have the numerous denominations due to how they interpret the bible--
be that what it may-I have seen athiests belittle Christians and cetainly visa versa. To each their own.
the way I see it
--one side goes through life with hope and good feelings about the life after--especially for loved ones whose death precedes them.
--the other goes thru life with no hope or expectations after death for themselves or others.
Has to be very troubling outlook.

Considering the consequences of each side being right or wrong--would appear to me if I'm wrong I am no worse off than the athiest and have had the benefit peace and hope during life--

--and would appear to me the athiest has no advantage- Am I wrong

buying alcohol on sundays?...gimme a break...what a straw man..

believe it or not,i really don`t have a dog in this fight....but,these people don`t bother you..you just want to impose your beliefs or lack thereof on everybody else...and,i get a little tired of you "tolerant leftist secularists" trying to impose your will on other people..you aren`t all that much different than the islamists...thankfully,you don`t have the sack or the wherewithal to enforce your narrow un-democratic point of view......

what amazes is me is that christianity is your whipping boy...they aren`t chopping heads off...killing homosexuals...forcing others into their faith....

you`re a coward at heart..you attack the most passive..a bully...and i don`t like bully`s much...

buddy may be to good natured to respond..

but,i`ll be happy to..

o.k...i`m getting a little p.o.`ed about this thread...and that`s not a good thing...so,i`ll bow out...

let me just say this,gmro...you need to have just a little consideration for those that don`t agree with your atheist philosophy....a constant barrage of posts basically pot-shotting and belittling a person`s faith and belief system is gonna make you some enemies...

you have that right....fair enough...i`ll stay out of your christian bashing threads...

but remember, friends come and go,enemies just accumulate...

Maybe you like living with ridiculous laws, but I don't. I like freedom. You and the too-fresh conservative crew are always crying 'Socialism' when a policy hints of anything along the lines, yet you say nothing when the government tries to control what you can and can't do.

believe it or not,i really don`t have a dog in this fight....but,these people don`t bother you..you just want to impose your beliefs or lack thereof on everybody else...and,i get a little tired of you "tolerant leftist secularists" trying to impose your will on other people..you aren`t all that much different than the islamists...thankfully,you don`t have the sack or the wherewithal to enforce your narrow un-democratic point of view......

You damn well know you have a dog in this fight.

These people don't bother me? That's pretty accurate, but doesn't really explain why I do what I do. As long as religion is a topic that is "important" come election time, I will continue to rail against it. As long as our government keeps sin laws in place, I will continue to rail against it. Maybe you're tactic is to sit back and let everyone make decisions for you, but I choose to speak up.

I'm undemocratic? I'm like the Islamists? Nice try. When you can't argue you're point, just start name calling. You're better than that.

what amazes is me is that christianity is your whipping boy...they aren`t chopping heads off...killing homosexuals...forcing others into their faith....

All religions are a farce. Here's a newsflash for you, I live in the United States where Christianity is the dominant religion. I'm sure this hasn't crossed your mind yet, so there it is. I attack christianity the most because it is the one that is in my face the most. As I have explained to you on more than one occasion, I think Islam is as big of a farce as every other religion. I'm not playing any favorites here.

you`re a coward at heart..you attack the most passive..a bully...and i don`t like bully`s much...

buddy may be to good natured to respond..

You attack Islam on a daily basis and nobody is here to defend them, aren't you a bully? Wait, that's way too logical for you. Face it, you still hold your ties to that religion and it irritates you to see someone so confident that the religion is bologna. Don't tell me that you are all of the sudden the mouthpiece for those that can't defend themselves, because we both know what a crock that is.

i bash "militant" islam...and those who force their religion on others through violence and brutality....i believe people can do as they please...

strikes me funny that you aren`t really a religion basher...you`re a "christian" basher hiding behind the atheist personna...

and the irony of all ironies is that your christian hatred(and that`s what it is) could only be expressed within a society built upon the judeo-christian worldview.......

i would like to see you try to express your "beliefs" in say, iran, palestine, etc...

you`re a walking contradiction..

1) there is no god.
2) i hate him.

lol

as i said,i really don`t have a dog in this fight...i just don`t like bullies..

A cynical, guilt-ridden former secret agent, gardenweasel took an early retirement, disgusted by the insolence and impudence of bullies. Not hurting for money, he decides to set himself up as a private detective and one-man "equalizer", dedicating himself to helping simple-minded people who really need it, as penance for his previous life. He works out of his swanky Manhattan apartment, and solicits clients through the classified section of local papers and pro bono cases from internet politics and religion forums. His background in espionage, ballet, detective and bodyguard work stands him in good stead.

Wait, was it founded on the judeo-christian ethic (which is a myth) or was it founded on slavery and killing? I love America, but I don't deny its ugly past.

i would like to see you try to express your "beliefs" in say, iran, palestine, etc...

Is that you're way of selling me on the goodness of religion?

you`re a walking contradiction..

Keep making stuff up. I don't talk about hating god, or loving him for that matter. I use the name god in a hypothetical context to help prove the absurdity in believing. If you can't follow along, I can't help you.

the main point here is that you lack compassion and respect for the beliefs of others ...whether or not you agree with them...

you handle the issue with a all the tact of a bigoted sledgehammer.. ..petulantly assailing the faith of people who dare differ with you on matters neither you nor they can prove ....

i usually wear my asbestos jammies when i come into these forums and enjoy the give and take...but after seeing your umpteenth put-down rant on the subject,i figured i`d have my say...

it`s obvious that it`s impossible to drill a hole in that pointy widdle head of yours to try and pour some respect for others feelings in there ,but it was fun doing the drilling...:yup

and now i feel like a total shit for being snarky and probably a bit downright mean with gmro...

gmro...i`m gonna stay out of you`re religion bashing threads because nothing will be gained by our continually butting heads on the issue...and as i`ve said before,i`m not here to make enemies...nor is it as compelling an issue for me,as it is for you...

i respect your right as an atheist to question just what, why, or how we exist......i don`t cringe at atheists...i really don`t give them much thought at all,usually....

i respect atheists just as i respect people who have other faiths because in the end, i believe everyone has a right to believe what they want, as long as they don't try to coerce me,convert me, try to put me in burka, or try to cut my head off....

now,you may tear me a new one without fear of retribution......you have the last word....

Hey Gw, have you heard the good news? We have a Ron Paul rally going on in your neck of the woods. I hope you can be there (btw, my liberal English professor father hates him too...does that mean that you guys are birds of a feather? I would love to be at that dinner party.)

agree with some of DTB's take. If you don't believe in God or any higher power, what is there to look forward to? Death? rotting in the ground until u turn into dust?? When you're laying on your death bed, what do you say? GMROZ, I'll make sure your suit is pressed and there are plenty of flowers?

Do you not feel that people have souls? If you do, expand on that and what u think happens to them...

I work around sick people all the time, of course, and I see a NOTICEABLE difference in those who believe and those who do not. Believe it, or not...

I'm not going to argue with anybody either because I used to in my younger days, and I learned there's no point. I'm actually far more prone to "argue" with a Christian than I am with somebody who doesn't believe in anything related to God/Jesus (right dawgball/pirate fan?) and that would be a friendly argument or disagreement at best. ;)
