Name that tune!!! Need help!!!!

I saw this guy playing the other night on TV. He was damn good.

Anyway the Chorus of the repeated the word "free" . He looked hippieish and had a scratchy voice. Almost looked like the lead singer for the spin doctors. I cant find this song anywhere and am totally stuck. Anyone have any ideas?

Well I doubt he would be on tv singing it, but all the other parameters fit, so perhaps it was trey anastasio of phish - they have a song called free?? One of the best guitar players alive IMO.
