I don't fish, so have no clue to answer to this question:

Why is it illegal to fish close to a hydro dam:shrug:

In most provinces in Canada it is illegal. In Ontario for example it is a 2 thousand dollar fine if caught. I am just curious why it is illegal:shrug:

Not sure Kick, but I think it has something to do with protecting the migrating fish. They want the salmon, etc. to reach the rivers. Just like certain areas in the great inland lakes of Ontario are protected during the spawn, they restrict the area around the hydro dams to help ensure the fish a safe passage. :)

This makes the most sense.

I think a lot of it is actually a safety issue because of the rate the water they can put through at a moments notice.

yep. Don't know of too many fish that migrate through hydroelectric dams! :mj07:

I know it would be hard for you to have to admit that maybe there's SOMETHING you DON'T know. But before ridiculing the statement perhaps you should read up on hydro dams and expand your horizons :thefinger They have built in ladders and other passage means for just such an occasion.

Didn't ridicule it, just don't know of any. I can always admit when I'm wrong. :moon:

What species are migrating through a hydroelectric dam in Ontario where kick lives? :)

I don't fish and know nothing about fishing was just curious as to why a 2000 dollar fine, didn't mean to start anything:scared

I think MyAddidas is correct it is a safety issue, but trolln4walii may also be correct. Maybe it is for both reasons? Maybe migration of certain species of fish go through those dams:shrug:

As stated I am not a fisherman, but maybe that is where you can catch the fish? If they needed to pass a law it is obviously because the fish are found there and that's where people were fishing.

But as I said I don't know, perhaps some expert fisherman know this. Are there certain types of fish that migrate near hydro dams? Maybe that's where you catch em? I mean why else would people fish there?

I mean they wouldn't pass this law if nobody was ever fishing there right? And if you fish there then it would be logical to assume there would be fish right:shrug:

OPP/OPG Team Up to Prevent Tragedy on the Water well, this is the header on that link u posted. I'm guessing the fine is there to discourage people from getting near and getting a fine for safety reasons not because they're trying to catch a migrating fish. :mj07: I could be wrong?? :)

I agree with SixFive on this one after seeing the Headliner and the video :) It's definitely a safety issue

However, ;) I do believe there are restrictions during the migrations in certain areas. This only makes sense as the schools could become depleted during their annual run up the river. And yes, they (salmon) and probably trout and walleye as well, do migrate through the dams.:SIB There are many off-limit areas during the spawn.

And KICK!!!! What's this living in Canada and DON'T fish????? What's up with that, aay :SIB If you found out George relaxed when not training by wetting that line in the water you'd be out buying a boat tomorrow :mj07: I'm heading north tomorrow to get my fix on those sizzling golden walleye fillets :00hour :canada1

Off topic .... but what book do you use for your parlays in MMA? And do they put the lines out early? Thanx :mj06:
