Just got back the cholesterol test from the doctors.

160 lcd "bad cholesterol"
32 hdl "good cholesterol"
122 triglycerides
-------------------------------

216 total cholesterol

Sends me a letter with the test results saying to get on a low fat diet and I need to be checked in 3 months. Am I in bad shape?

Thanks in advance...

Above the Clouds....
I wouldn't worry about a stroke..heart attack well that's a different story.

Thing is ...it's really easy to change those numbers.

"the bunker"
probably at least partially hereditary...

you may have to go on a statin...make sure they start you out at the smallest doseage....i`ve read that you always want to start out on as low a doseage as possible...

you`ll be getting your liver and kidney function checked on a regular basis...

it`s part of getting older...beats the alternative...

Start making a concerted effort to cut the fats from your diet. Eat baked or broiled fish 2-3 times a week. If you don't eat fish, try fish oil capsule supplements. Your counts aren't awful and can probably be improved with minimal pain or discomfort.

216 Total Cholesterol doesn't seem too high.... 125-200 are the low/high reference ranges I believe. Nothing to go completely change your life about, just watch what you eat a little more.

Doctor put me on Lovavaza when my good was too low. I switched to wheat bread, took vitamins regularly, drank promgrante juice or soy milk, and ate more fruits when the bad was too high a couple years earlier and it came down without any other help.

really?? I don't think so, ha ha!

My total cholesterol isn't nearly as high nor are my triglycerides. However, I have this huge disparity in my HDL and LDL. I can't get my HDL to go up even with strenuous cardiopulmonary exercise. I'm also not taking any pills :moon: I put mine on here a few months ago; I know 35 was my HDL and my LDL was around 100. It is a hereditary thing, and it's not easy to change (at least not unless you take medication).
