This is a 5 day event and starts on Wednesday so I figured we could get a discussion going. I'm still a little sick that I lost that Fujikawa play. I'm use to winning / losing by 1 shot, thats the nature of the beast. But the way it lost is rather sickening, but i have to take that into account betting on a guy who is a mini tour player. The dreams of my perfect season, have ended.

This field is rather week compared to Abu Dhabi.

So far small plays on
Horschel -110 over Couch
(Injury Fade + Horschel seemed confident on his twitter account after firing a 68 on Friday at the Sony)

Looking over a couple now, trying to learn these new guys.

1/20/10 1:18pm PGA Golf 153 Graham Delaet (Tourn) -125* vs Harrison Frazar (Tourn)

Brutal card by Frazar last week with even worst ball striking stats. Great debut for Dalaet, i cant pretend like i know anything about him. He seems to have a lot of distance which will help here. Hopefully he keeps up the momentum.

So far small bets this week

Bo Van Pelt to win 91.00

Absolutely anyone could win this event, just look at the chalkies. Might as well grab some odds.

72 holes
Campbell over Leonard -110

Why are these two guys always matched together? Usually I like Leonard, but not here, and not this early in the year.

Was watching the shark shootout i think and faxon was excited about how well he was playing. Wilson a rookie, first start of the year.

Second start, he played the sony mc..

Faxon was dead last on tour in birdies last year.

The pga tour website has been screwy when trying to look at results

Outrights:

Bubba Watson(66/1) e.w.
Jeff Quinney(125/1) e.w.
Chad Campbell(22/1) e.w.
Matt Kuchar(33/1) e.w.
- - Looks an oddball lineup for an event that can play out as a birdie fest and desert putting contest . . . After both a better and more consistent performance than I had capped for Bubba at Waialae, I heard that as a birthday/Xmas/anniversary/something gift, Bubba paid $12,000 for a spot for his wife in the Hope pro-am (of course stipulating she would not be playing in his group), so this next event has "been on his calendar" for quite some time . . . Quinney also surprised me with his steady scoring last week, and now the Arizona/Oregon connected player gets a huge price in a weak field in an event right up his street or certainly in his area code . . . reading that "(Ryan) Palmer and Campbell decided to head for the California desert to prepare for their season opener, playing two rounds together on courses used for the Bob Hope Classic," conjures up for me the potential synergy of a buddy factor, a former champion, the widely-known success following Kaymer and Noren more extensively prepping in the Arizona desert, and a strong resolution off the debacle that started Campbell's 2009 season when he failed to enter at Waialae . . . and in trying to pick the one man who might win in a 128 man field, my heretofore reasonably succusseful catechism tells me that a short turnaround off a missed cut is very much a favorable profile for a player who, "in an interview during the Kapalua telecasts, (Kuchar) discussed how he was feeling good about his game when he got together with his instructor Chris O'Connell (in California) in December, and in short order his coach agreed they didn't have much to work on, so they would work on his scoring, (and) on cue, Kuchar ranked #1 in all around stats at Kapalua according to tour-tips."

Round 1 play (2pts):

John Senden to beat Michael Sim -117 @ Pinnacle
Both players were in good form on the Australasian Tour last month, Senden ending the year with a runners-up finish in the Australian PGA Championship, two shots ahead of Sim in 5th place. But this is a pro-am and previous experience of these on the PGA Tour points to a decisive advantage for Senden. Whereas Sim has played in only two of these on this Tour, missing the cut once and finishing 52nd, Senden record is quite different. In this event, for example, he has played in each of the last eight years and has finished: 13th, 57th, 41st, 6th, 5th, 33rd, 22nd, and 9th, averaging 68.30 over his 40 rounds. This should point to another high finish for Senden this week.

72 hole matchups
"**"denotes a two point play

Stake 1.09 pts Carl Petterson -109 over Rod Pampling @ Pinnacle

Going to ride Petterson this week as he is a player who plays well in bunches. His game disappeared last season until the last few weeks and he continued that form last week in Hawaii. Pampling has not played since the run of Australian events in November. Both have poor records at this event but I will go with the in form player

Stake 2.4 pts Martin Laird -120 over Michael Sim @ Bet365 (Ties lose) **

I look for Laird to be a contender this week. He obviously has an affection for desert courses winning Vegas a few months ago and played well in Phoenix and Reno. He made the cut in his last two starts here, going -19 last year. Sim's first event of the year and first start at this tournament. Laird finished 4th in a smaller yet very impressive field two weeks ago, he may top that this week.

Stake 2.10 pts Martin Laird-105 over John Senden @ 5dimes **

Senden's performance is quite solid at this event but he also has not played since the stretch of Aussie events. There are enough reasons to oppose Senden, epecialy with a guy like Laird who is in solid form.

Stake 1.50 pts Jason Dufner -105 over Rickie Fowler @ Extrabet

Dufner finished t20 last week with a closing 64. Dufner has improved from his first event here with a solid t34 last year and is a player who is not afraid to shoot low scores. Fowler finished 5 shots out of last place last week, and even though this venue may suit him better I don't think he will be able to keep up with Dufner

Stake 1.1 Pts Matt Kuchar -110 over David Toms @ 5dimes

Kuchar has beaten Toms 6 out of the last 8 common events with one of those losses coming last week where Kuchar missed the cut. Still with Kuchar's recent form the past 5 months this is certainly a play at a pick'em.

Outright

Leoanard 25/1
Laird 35/1
Dufner 75/1 e.w
Chopra 200/1 e.w
Duval 250/1 e.e
