What sites do you guys use for searching for the cheapest flights? Is it cheaper to buy way in advance or very last minute. Thx

The same is often the case for hotels. I just booked my hotel for disney 1st week of January and received a better deal directly on the hotel site than on expedia and similar sites....
I will say that expedia does well with package deals. I cancelled my chicago trip for this month, but it was going to cost less than 700 and change for nonstop flight and 3 nights at high end hotel downtown. Purchased separately would have been 1100.
I have no doubt yall are correct as I am certainly no frequent flyer, but I could have sworn there was a thread that listed a few sites with all the deals consolidated into one site. I guess my memory sucks though, cause my search resulted in zilch.
I call my friendly neighborhood travel agent.
The guy kicks ass and is personable. Checks every out when it comes to an airline ticket. Let him do the work so you don't have to.

hotwire ... been using for 5 years and I travel 20-25 weeks a year
priceline is good for flights because Southwest is not available from ATL
I just got 3 nights downtown Chicago for $69 a night on hotwire and the convention rate was almost $300 a night:scared

you shoulda gone to the AAA travel office.
they beat disney by ~20% every day of the year.

sites like kayak and farecompare are gonna for seeing what all the airlines offer at that moment in time.
no real difference for just straight airline tickets between expedia orbitz and the airline site.
I would recommend getting it right from the airline site tho --- could save you serious headaches down the road if changes or irregular ops happen
if you want rock bottom dirt cheap, and are willing to slum it.. go to priceline and bid on a price. but be well prepared to take what you get an dont even think about changing it.

Bing is an awesome site. It tells you how much the prices change by days, by times of the day and by length of stay.

I find the travel agent's prices not much worse than I can get online. Sometimes better!
And if/when your flight canceled and ya gotta wait in long azz line to change it--just call the agent and he'll give you options over the phone and sometimes get the change done for ya before line moves 3 people!
nothing like personalized service by a professional for you one-on-one when things go bad--at little or no extra cost!
and they can get free upgrades for you easier too.
Serious question -- how much do travel agents charge? The last time I used one was many moons ago (before all the Expedia, Priceline sites took off). Do they just charge a percentage of the total cost?
I would bet there aren't too many of them left now with the Internet taking over like it has. :shrug:

Thanks Handi Capper, I am actually not going for a while, but thout it might be cheaper is booked well in advance. I am finding that not to be so true. I will def. shoot you some mail when I am ready to book and see what your guy can do.

Exactly what we do. Last year our flight out of Atlanta was cancelled on Sat. the best the airline could do was get us out on the following Tues. Called the agent we booked with and we were on our way at 5pm that nite
