RE: Just Football
I agree with some of your thoughts, but the State of Michigan just became the 20th State to legalize Sports Wagering. I think you also have to calibrate an individual's passion for College and Pro Sports.
I think you described the two extremes, some people wager for "hiccups and giggles" and others do so to make money. I think in the next twenty months you're going to see ALOT of people that fall somewhere in the middle. The Washington Capitals now have a Book in their arena, and the Redskins are pushing for the same - IN THE NATIONS CAPITAL NO LESS.
I think with the increased interest in wagering you will see people (men and women) that are new to gaming, people that go from a casual interest to a serious interest, and people that leave it all together or scale back.
I have no problem stating that RR, Box & 1, Hawkeye, and a couple of others posted games on MJ that had me at + significant $ last year, wagering no more than $100 - $200 per game. A couple times nailed some in-games for more $ when they looked that strong as they were taking place. Their insight is 3 times stronger than 5 or 6 different syndicated publications/websites.
The best one game example was just last week when Box and 1 saw a UTSA/UTEP line of UTSA line of -1, and two weeks earlier he had attended the same game (@ UTEP) and UTSA was ahead by 15-16 the entire game before a late run put it into OT. Taking UTSA (@ UTSA) in the rematch @ -1 was the easiest $4,000 I've ever made, with $2,200 on the 1st half and $2,200 on the game. That type of insight in this Forum is invaluable. UTSA lead by double digits the entire 1st Half, and in the 2nd half it got down to 6 before growing back to 15 when UTSA Starters came back in from a blow. Nothing lucky about that $4,000, and less than zero stress.
RR's system, knowledge, and insight is the some of the best I've ever read. The disparity between the Final scores of many of his games and the lines is astonishing.
Hawkeye is a Totals machine, but I can't get his 5 mn and 10 mn lines on-line or at a live book. I've also learned more college team knicknames than I ever thought I would.
Not sure what you would do with significant $, but I used some of it for a used car (30,000 mi) for my son at college.
