It sounds like a very good chance no games this weekend. They may go w/a 15 game season. Only 1 problem: San Diego has a bye this week.

Looks like a reality now; unless they eliminate one of the wild cards from each conference. The NFL was courting trouble when they determined they just had to have that 31st team.

I would hate to see two teams get eliminated from the playoffs. I hope they can somehow stretch the season one more week or reschedule all the games.

According to Chris Mortensen on ESPN last night, he said that eliminating one wild card from each conference was the more likely scenario. Of course, he also said they were likely to play this weekend.

If the NFL was going to cancel, they should've done it right away. Now we're seeing the "Domino Effect"; baseball can't be left out so they decide not to play. DOn't be shocked if all the NCAA games are postponed. It's all about knee-jerk reaction.

I think they should have played. People need to get together right now and show those Bastards we wont be F@#%ked with. Just imagine the American spirit that would have been displyed at stadiums around the country.Would have been spine tingling. I think they should just not have two weeks before the super bowl this year. Definately dont want to see wild cards eliminated. Didnt Baltimore come from a wild card spot last year?

Dreadhead--

You are right about Baltimore. And I think you're right about what a patriotic symbol it could've been if the NFL played. Travel will not be significantly safer one week later.

I could not agree with you more. Now the NFL commissioner has played right into the hands of the terriosts. I only remember a veiw days ago that our Commander & Chief ask us to get on with our daily lives. We are all grieving. A diversion and display of patriotism Suday would have been perfect.

NFL = No Football League

actually the discussions on this subject took place this afternoon. a very reliable person told me the most likely scenario would be to make up the lost games the first week of january.

I have a hunch first week wild cards are gone. The nfl will loose to much money not playing all games. The first week wild cards will not make up the loss.

Is it totally out of the question to eliminate the off week before the superbowl? I know that everyone and his brother uses this time to market the big game, but most of us end up watching man made movies on TBS all weekend.

This would allow for all 16 games to be played, and for the playoffs to have 6 teams from each division. Eliminating 2 wild card teams would RUIN the season in my honest opinion.

Are there any other creative thoughts out there?

djeze, as far as i know there isn't a week off before the superbowl this year. i think djv is right, i think the wildcards will be cut back to one wild card per conference. it seems to be the best option at this point. personally i'd much rather see that happen than have a 15 week season.

From Peter King of SI who is usually pretty accurate, "On Tuesday morning, the NFL will announce that the league will play Week 2 in full on what now will be Week 18 of the season, Jan. 5-6. There won't be a Monday night game -- that Minnesota-Baltimore game will probably be played Saturday night, Jan. 5. The rest of the games will be played Sunday."

Glad to see them coming to their senses. A 15 game season would've been incredibly stupid, esp w/SD playing 16. This is the only fair way. But I suspect it came down to money; sure, there will be 2 less playoff games but imagine how much money the league would lose for 15 lost games. Still would love to see Balt/Minny on a Monday night.

Casper you are correct. There is no off week this year before SB. I hope Peter King is correct.
