does anybody in LA or anywhere else for that matter know how the staples center handles the ice when they play basketball the night before? they just put the court over the ice right? does this normally still affect the ice 24 hours later? any info would be appreciated...

If its 24 hours later, they get it back very close to what it was. The same day is a different story.
The only thing I can add is that in local media quotes I have heard players praise the ice surface even for same day changeovers. Mostly that was shortly after it opened so I dunno how much water that holds.
State of the art ice and floor care (and changeovers) and they brag about it constantly and I've never heard the players comment negatively.
