Someone was inquiring about 1st and 2nd halves at another site, so I posted my data. I'll post it here too in case anyone finds it helpful. Had some trouble formatting it there, so I had to use dots for spaces. Just cut and paste here, so it's a bit ugly.

It's pretty clear why oddsmakers have adjusted for Utah's totals. New Jersey and Washington's totals are similar to Utah's.

In Utah's case, they foul until the bitter end college-style. Not sure why they can't score in the 1st half though.

In Washington's case, from what I've observed, when they are getting blown out, the young guys (in particular Dixon and Blake) come in and really pick up the tempo.

Not sure what the story is with New Jersey. However, their 1st half total break down is 5-4-1 since Frank took over. It was 14-28-0 under Scott. So, their overall 19-32-1 may be misleading now.

I didn't take a close look at sides, but Orlando's pitiful 13-40-3 record in the 2nd half ATS seems to reflect McGrady's recent comments about the team quitting in the 2nd half.

Hope this is helpful.

I know I'm too lazy to do it, but it would be great to have...

~ when playing at home
~ when playing on the road
~ when leading at the half
~ when trailing at the half
~ when a dog for the 2h
~ when a fav for the 2h
~ when leading by double digits at half
~ when trailing by double digits at half

I'm sure there are more. These are the things the "halftime team" should be keeping track of and posting, instead of just opinions. It would help everyone much more.

Yes, I will be generating situational data as well as time goes on. Will update when I get a chance. Second half data is near-impossible to find online. That's what motivated me to start tracking it myself. Have quarter data as well plus everything from pro and college football which I hope will be helpful next season.

interesting stuff, and it confirmed my suspicion:

cavaliers have been a great 1h over team, only to then become a solid 2h under team.

young guys get out and run a lot in the 1h, then have trouble scoring in the 2h when the game gets tight in the halfcourt

thanks for the post

Yes, it's especially apparent in the 4th quarter for the Cavs. 3rd quarter totals for them are near .500, whereas they've gone under in the 4th quarter about 66% of the time (though not tonight of course).
