I pop in now and again, but I'm not going to post until I feel the tide has truly turned. I'm not talking about kids getting fouled in the last minute and missing the total. I'm talking about needing 1 or 2 points to finish the wager and it's brick city. I lost a healthy parlay last weekend, needing 2 points. Kid gets fouled and misses them both (a while back I was commending coaches on spending more time on FT and FT %.... I guess I shouldn't have said it, because it's been excruciating watching miss after miss. Then the opponent gets the defensive rebound and runs the clock out. I thought I was watching the same game play out over and over.
Today, I was pretty confident that the total in the Kennesaw game was way too high. I made a very large bet on the Under 151. I wasn't watching the game and just happened to look at my tablet and noticed score was 60-59 with about 2 seconds left. I kept waiting for it to go final, and nothing was happening, so I hit the ESPN+ and I picked it up with 1 sec left, and a kid from Kennesaw was heading to the free throw line. One of the talking heads mentioned that the kid was only like a 40 % free throw shooter. Kid steps up and makes the first (game now is 60-60. Of course I knew what was going to happen next and sure enough, brick. Heading to OT. I'm shaking my head wondering when this shit was going to stop. Still, I'm feeling pretty confident that there is no way these teams can get 31 points in OT. I went to run a quick errand and turned the scoreboard on when I got back thinking it had to be in the books. Nope, again I turned it on to see a new clock and OT 2 ... Now I'm beside myself (I don't usually get that caught up) still, I'm thinking it still has a chance. Last minute of the 2nd OT was tied 74-74. Both teams are miserable in the final minute
At this point I'm thinking (hoping) that if someone hits a 3, I will be happy with the Push. Kennesaw has the ball, and the point guard proceeds to hold it until roughly 5 seconds left (way too long). He tries to drive the middle, misses his layup, and the Center tries to tap in the miss, but way off. OT 3 and my wager is sunk again (I have been doing this for many years, and have never been caught up in so many damn OTs that have resulted in horrible misfortune.
Makes no sense to post if this is how this season is going to play out. I certainly don't want other people losing money on the same crap as I am.
On Sunday, I played the first half Under of the Ohio St/Purdue game (68). With almost 3 minutes left, I'm sitting pretty good. Both teams would need nearly 20 points with the 3 minutes. Kid from Purdue goes off and starts dropping 3 balls everywhere. To make matters worse, same kid hits an outside 3 and gets fouled, for a 4 point play (happens all the time, right?). Halftime lands on 69. I lose.
Maybe I should start handicapping the Olympics.
