pineiro has been groomed to become a starter and has done very well, pitching 9 innings of relief were he allowed no runs and only two hits. then, his last time out, he started a game, but was yanked after 2 innings, 2 hits, 4 bb, 2 runs, 1 e.r. and a no decision. that one last game was a decisive one, where he was supposed to pitch 5-6 innings and build up the confidence to keep going as a starter.
this is a play against pineiro, who is in a difficult mental spot here, having failed in his first stint as a starter and not been given the chance to let it all out (get banged up). maybe tonight.
