$200 million to Iran -- Who said this was a good idea?

Senator Joseph Biden was ostensibly chosen by Barack Obama for his foreign policy gravitas. Get a load of this excerpt from the liberal New Republic in the wake of 9/11:
At the Tuesday-morning meeting with committee staffers, Biden launches into a stream-of-consciousness monologue about what his committee should be doing, before he finally admits the obvious: ?I?m groping here.? Then he hits on an idea: America needs to show the Arab world that we?re not bent on its destruction. ?Seems to me this would be a good time to send, no strings attached, a check for $200 million to Iran,? Biden declares. He surveys the table with raised eyebrows, a How do ya like that? look on his face.

The staffers sit in silence. Finally somebody ventures a response: ?I think they?d send it back.? Then another aide speaks up delicately: ?The thing I would worry about is that it would almost look like a publicity stunt.? Still another reminds Biden that an Iranian delegation is in Moscow that very day to discuss a $300 million arms deal with Vladimir Putin that the United States has strongly condemned. But Joe Biden is barely listening anymore. He?s already moved on to something else.

Some facts seem to have eluded the foreign policy specialist:

-Iran is Persian, and is therefore not part of the Arab World.

-It is the leading sponsor of Global Jihad terrorism, which is the force that struck America on 9/11.

---------------------------

Now ask yourself: Is this the experience we need?

Ray, my guess is we will hear crickets on this one.

This guy is definitely NOT the second opinion that we need.

We do not need Barry Obama to have this voice in his head (along with Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, Tony Rezko, and the Million Man March)

I see and I understand. Obama has gotten a free pass for his thin resume', so I get the hypocrisy.

That is a very stupid idea. Reminds me of the time we hand delivered them Missiles in an pussilanamous attempt to get hostages released. I think that was Ollie North's brainchild. Never reward terrorists.

That was Reagan that cut and run after Hezbollah blew up our Marines. Not Carter.

Carter handled the hostage situation disgracefully, but nobody died.

Reagan left Lebanon meekly after Hezbollah killed hundreds of our Marines. Tail between our legs.

Jimmy Carter wasn't president in 1982, Reagan was. And you're right, after they sponsored the killing of 280 american soldiers in Beirut we should have dealt with them. Don't think Reagan wanted a full scale war with Iran. Jimmy tried but the helicopters got stuck in a sand storm and that was the end of his presidency. Reagan and Bush both tried to help Saddam Hussein defeat Iran in the Iran/Iraq war but even with satellite photos from US Saddam could only fight them to a draw.

Maybe, but that was a meticulously planned rescue operation that failed because of a non detectable sand storm in the middle of an Iranian desert. The Weather Channel did a pretty cool special on it back then we did not have the technology to see these sandstorms.
