2003 review
Euro tour: continued resolution from 2001 to not dabble in tour unfamiliar with.
No plays
Beards: Outrights
0-14/-14 units
matches 9-5/+3.48 units
Did not heed 2002 resolution to stay out of outright market. Is not practicle when you have to go 20+ players to get double didget place odds.Maybe getting skunked in 2003 will reinforce note.
Matches were Ok and may play sporadically in 2004.Hoping new blood in 2004 will change the normally cloned same matches week in and week out.
The Bush:
outrights + 69.5 no matches
While outrights appeared more productive in 2003 from 2002 it was not the case in fact about the same as most plays in 2002 were 1/2 unit.
Might start doing some matches in 2004. Did some unofficially and while nothing to write home about did ok--however with being able to view most tourneys next year might venture out with a few.
PGA outrights +40.8 units matches 278-184 + 80.06 units
Again while it appears outrights were same as in 2002 they were in fact bout 1/2 --as all plays in 2002 were 1/2 unit and most in 2003 were full unit. Reason was clear-Oly cutting off 3rd rd option of in running place wagers. They returned sporatically at end of season but for most part that lucrative avenue was decimated for better than 1/3 of season.
Matches Much the better than previous and doubt a repeat but will give it my best.Had lots of good bounces at seasons end. 28 weeks in the black,13 in the red. Reason was quite obvious as in prior years I looked for and played predominately dogs. Finally got rid of the tunnel vision and decided there was also value in favs as some have tried to get through my hard noggin in past. Actually played 29 plays above -125 going 17-7-5 on them, Had 2 plays above -138 which were -155 and lost both of em.
Had no nemesis player that really hurt as Perry last year and Singh in 2001.
Did find a few David Duval of 2002 fade gems.
Garcia: Faded him to the tune of 13-2 with additional miss the cuts at 2-0 @ +270 and 120
Howell: 14-4 on fades.
Quite remarkable these 2 had no wins and only 3 top 5's collectively(Garcia Euro/US stats combined) in 63 starts. Both were totally inept at finishing, ranking 118 and 174 respectively in final rd scoring. I have an opinion on Howell's regression that the changing of pins on final day to much nearer the edge in past season might explain the stroke diff from 2002 as he has yet to trottle wedges.Just my opinion.
Most successful play on player was C Campbell going 9-2 on and 4-1 opposing.
Books
Seems more are lining beards and bush. Was impressed with Pinnicle getting in market with their lines. Disappointed Cascade went to higher lines and will use sparingly if at all in 2004.
Huge disappintment in $plays who are now cloning all lines and find little value anymore. Used to be my most profutable book ever year. This years most profitable were 5dimes-365 and WSEX with Sportingbet running close. Only book at deficeit was Centrebet but I really like them and will take another drubbing to convince me there is not a profit to be had there. Have just added Stan James for 2003 but not funded yet. Added bet Jamacia toward year end because of affiation with Oly but not made wager there. They keep promising but not producing.
Sure miss some of old posters like cartman, monarch and others but forum sure has picked up some quality new talent and appreciate their sharing ideas---and special thanks as always to Stan who stats and other resources give us some leverage vs the man.
