As excited as I am to start betting on football again, I have never had any success betting on preseason games. Any tips would be much appreciated.

Money can be made in the Preseason, but you have to be careful.

A few tips:

A) Coaches talk to the press as to their intentions. If you have BOTH coaches stating whether they care about winning, you can win.
Some coaches do actually want to win in preseason to get the "winning attitude'. Some coaches are disgusted with the Preseason, and act that way.

B) bet against teams that have a lot of older veterans, especially at QB (like G B and K C)

C) Look for revenge games. Like an opponent beat them and kept them from the playoffs the season before.

D) OVER/UNDERS History says that UNDERS is the way to go in most WEEK 1 games.
One interesting game: K C @ MIN. Both teams fully realize that their defenses were terrible last year. They have added MANY defensive players. They have to build a defensive attitude. Look for stronger defensive play and UNDER 43.

E) Beware.....UNDERS are good in WEEK 1, but dont forget that "special teams" have more turnover in players. KO and Punts can be run back for TDs.
Also, back-up QBs want to show off on the long pass.

agree with 4bubba on pre season but with reservations.

A good winning handicapper will play the pre season games only small. If you are diciplined enough, you shouldn't play them at all.

There are too many unknowns, too many players playing that will not be on the team when regular season starts, and these are the guys that you win and lose your money on. Not me said Bulah the Bear.

Pre-season is a time to take mental notes and find out teams
strengths and weaknesses that will assist you in winning money over the long season and into the playoffs.

It makes the most sense to try to pick out four or five teams to concentrate on. Then wager on games involving the teams you know best.

Getting excited now, can't wait for the first kickoff.

Thanks for the tips. I will do my best to be disciplined during preseason. Although realistically I know that I am weak when football comes around. I'm looking for the Lions to have a good preseason since Harrington is desperately trying to keep his job, Garcia is trying to take it away and all of the young receivers are auditioning to be THE MAN.

I don't agree at all Scott.

For the very reasons that 4bubba posted, winning in pre-season can be easier than the reg season.

PLENTY of info can be found by reading local press before the game...Coaches views (ie. taking it seriously or not)...are they working on their defense/running game (unders), is a back up QB trying to get the reg. start (lots of throwing...overs).

A classic example was in wk. 4 last season was Tenn v. Green Bay.
Tenn were -7, but talking up how important it was to go into the season on a winning note.
Green Bay on the other hand were resting starters.
Not surprisingly the Titans won 48-27.

I honestly believe that pre-season has some of the best bets on offer.

One factor that is very important is the QB rotation.

Some coaches play 4 or 5 different QBs in a game. That totally disrupts the rest of the team.

Also, after the first week, some coaches want to have the back-upQBs to play with the first team.

Is there a change in philosophy on either the Offense or Defense from last year?
Defense-->going to the 3-4 (Dallas...)
Offense-->different style (Jets...)
There may be a lot of confusion.

How many positions are up for competition?

HOF weekend games up at Pinnacle...

Indy -2.5

Mia -1.5

Initially, I think I really like Atl +2.5 or even for ML for +120. Better QB rotation and I've noticed they try to win these games a little more. Colts lose a lot more production once the starters are out.

Definitely want to read up on how they will each approach the trip to Tokyo.

c20916 good list.

I need the fouth and fifth starter for the first two games of Preseason.

Every team has at least four QBs that are ready to play.

The main thing is what the HCs plan for the first and second week. Usually the 3, 4, and 5 QBs play the second half, but not always.

What are the plans?????
