Outright plays (total stake per play: 2pts)
Gil Morgan to win 25/1 e.w. @ BetInternet and Boyle Sports
The effects of playing in the Senior British Open became apparent over the weekend and it should continue into this week after two weeks of Senior majors. There are plenty of players that I would like to back, but their odds are rather short and there should also be a letdown from being in contention last week. By those standards, Morgan, Hatalsky and Purtzer look ideally placed to profit in the post-double-major event. Morgan had a solid week last week, being in the top-20 at the end of every round and had had two top-five finishes in his previous four starts. With a course record that reads 3rd, 2nd and 13th, I'll back the veteran to contend once again.
Morris Hatalsky to win 33/1 e.w. @ Expekt
Hatalsky had been in the top-10 after the 1st round last week, but struggled badly on the back nine on Friday and the result was his first finish outside the top-20 since March. That consistency had seen him ranked 2nd in scoring average on this Tour until last week, though he still remains top of the putts per round category. So having coasted after losing his winning opportunity on Friday last week and having a course record of finishing 2nd and 13th in the last two years, he should be back to his normal competitive game this week.
Tom Purtzer to win 33/1 e.w. @ Boyle Sports
By his own admission, he had been struggling before last week, but a visit to Butch Harmon in Las Vegas two weeks ago did the trick: he shot 65 in the 1st round to lie 2nd behind Craig Stadler. He then struggled to find the fairway in the 2nd round and that was a severe penalty on the wet course and he fell out of contention and coasted the rest of the week, but the indication of a reversal of form was there on Thursday. With the fairways much more generous on a TPC course, this week will be much more to his liking - he had previous struggled in USGA events - as shown by his finishes of 10th and 3rd in the last two years. And at these odds, he certainly warrants support.
