Found one I like today..........................
4 Units Colorado(+100)
Another dangerous looking play at first glance as I am backing the woeful Colorado Rockies. Yep, they are 20 games under .500 with the 2nd worst record (by 1/2 game) in the major leagues, but all my parameters are pointing in one direction for this one.
Yes, Colorado has had a poor season so far, 19-39 overall, but they are a respectable 15-16 at home, and are actually 5-4 in their last 9 games..........games against teams with a combined record of 102-75 (.576). Not bad. And we all know they have always been a better home team than road team.
Detroit, has had an up and down first couple of months, but appear headed down right now. They have lost 4 of their last 5, have lost 5 of their 6 interleague games this season, scoring an average of just 2.8 runs, and they have lost 5 of 6 games in Coors Field since IL play started.
Advantage: Colorado
On the pitching mound, the Rockies will send righthander Jamie Wright. He is 3-5, 6.35 ERA, YTD, but he did win his last time out and deserved to win the outing before that, giving up 0 ER in 6 IP vs the Cardinals, so he has pitched better lately. In his career, he is 2-0 vs Detroit, with a 1.80 ERA. He does struggle vs lefties, but in their last game against a righthander, the Tigers started no lefties and just 3 switchhitters.....one of whom hits worse against righties (Logan) and one who has just arrived in The Show (Giarratano).
For Detroit, Mike Maroth takes the ball. He is 4-6, 4.73 YTD. He has lost his last 4 starts and struggled badly in doing so, giving up 18 ER in 23.2 IP................an ERA of 6.85.
His career numbers vs the Rockies are 1-1, 6.48 ERA, 1.92 WHIP and .397 BAA. Whoa!!
In his career, righthanded hitters have spanked him at a .297 clip, with 66 homeruns in 465 IP. Last time Colorado faced a lefthanded starter, they had 6 righties and 2 switchhitters in the starting 8.
Advantage: Colorado
On the offensive side of things, I know that it's difficult to compare Rockie stats to anything else because of the Coors factor. So I looked at how Colorado has hit lefthanders TY. And sure enough, they hit lefties for higher numbers, especially in slugging percentage. Detroit's numbers are almost identical vs R's and L's. And I've already mentioned their poor run production in interleague play.
Advantage: Colorado
With all my parameters pointing at one team, and that team playing at home at even $$$$$, it's a play.
