When you have the +1/2, the 0-0 games are always exciting.

I didn't see a lot of diving but I did "rest my eyes" a bit. I heard an interesting discussion this week regarding why the South Americans dive and why it's not accepted in Europe (except Italy).

The commentator said that survival instincts, street smarts and individual traits are more admired attributes and that's why you see so many more jukes and deeks while an English player will try and go right through you with strength or pace. The English admire work ethic more based on the industrial background and team work and that's why their fans get so much more excitment from corners than South American fans. MLS fans hate diving, but pulling on jerseys is somehow not called or considered bad form

As the world gets smaller, these traits seem less defined to one culture, but I thought it was a pretty interesting discussion.

I actually really like world cup soccer and soccer at it's highest levels...ie not mls. The Euro cup 2 years ago was great, and many of the later world cup matches will probably be as well.

I just have problems with teams trying for the tie which is exactly what uruguay did yesterday and it's a snoozefest. Why are you telling your players we are gonna not try and win and just try for the tie which they did maybe not in those exact words, but it was obvious. Fck the French....they would have lost if Uruguay tried anything offensively.

Also, Nigeria is going to get destroyed. Glad I'm sitting on Argentina -270.

I don't mind defensive games, I think North Korea/Brazil will be fascinating if it's 0-0 after 30 minutes. The problem was France had no plan, tactic or sense of purpose and those games suck.

Keep tryin' Gibber, it won't get worse. US/England should be good because of energy, but all the teams in the group are better countering than attacking and that makes for horrible soccer, so I doubt the World Cup is going to change anybody's opinion.

I only wish that the refs officiated appropriately with this in mind. It would only take one world cup where they leaned towards not calling the flops and a few games were lost due to someone rolling on the ground before it "started" to lessen.

It's territorial, for sure. Dempsey is really the only American player who dives. Most are gritty and would rather play advantage than beg for the call.

HOLY SHIT I'm excited about today's game. I think a draw will be a good result for us today, but we certainly won't be playing for the draw as BDB accurately described Uruguay's play yesterday.

BDB - they replayed that game yesterday, and I believe Classic is showing each early stage game only once.

They're showing this morning's games tonight starting at 6 Eastern.

On the course!
THESE PHUCKING HORN THINGS ARE MAKING MY BRAIN MELT!!!!!!!

:sadwave:

No shit. I got in my car after work, and the radio was on ESPN. I thought an air raid was being broadcast, and started looking for a ditch to hide in!

The horns made it sound like the game was being broadcast from inside a hornets nest. I was entranced. (I actually think they may use this to keep people from changing the station....)

Once I heard the British turd ESPN had doing the game, though......I wished the horns were louder. WTF is that all about? I certainly know that there have been enough Americans playing this game at this level now, that you don't need to have this mushmouthed motherfucker screaming out shit that no one this side of the Firth of Forth can understand.

I can't find a ballgame on the radio because of this???????
