Life is full of mysteries, some that can be explained, and many others that cannot and more than likely never will be. A good mystery is always an intriguing story simply because of the element of the unexplained. Let's take a look at some real life mysteries that have never been able to be explained.
L'Oiseau Blanc
Charles Nungesser and Francois Coli were two French aviation heroes who attempted to make history. In 1927 they tried to be the very first to complete a non-stop transatlantic flight. After they took off they disappeared never to be found again. :shrug:
Piper Navajo
Irving Rivers left the Virgin Islands on November 3, 1978. The control tower operator cleared him for landing, and could even see the plane's lights. The controller turned his attention to another aircraft that was making a departure, and when he returned to the radar, the Navajo had disappeared. The plane was never found.

D.B. Cooper
D.B. Cooper hijacked a passenger aircraft back in 1971. He ended up parachuting off the plane after demanding a ransom of 200,000 dollars. His body was never identified or located.
Eltanin Antenna
An oceanographic research ship known as the Eltanin was tasked with photographing the ocean floor in 1964. During the research an unidentified object was found at a depth of nearly 4,000 meters. The object resembled an antenna of an extraterrestrial ship. It wasn't until 2003 that it was identified as a sponge.

Bimini Road
This underwater rock formation is located near North Bimini Island in the Bahamas and has long been said to be a man-made structure. A T.V. special featured the Bimini Road, and even found an entire second layer of square-cut rocks, lending credence to the theory that the structure was man-made by a mysterious civilization. The theory is heavily contested by many people today though.
DC-3 Airliner
A DC-3 aircraft with 32 people aboard disappeared on December 28, 1948 on its way to Miami. Air traffic controllers in New Orleans heard communications from the flight, which could indicate that it had drifted off-course. However the flight never arrived in Miami and the plane was never found.

A Cessna headed for Bimini Island left Fort Lauderdale on March 31, 1984. Halfway through the flight, the plane began to decelerate, then suddenly vanished from radar. A witness on shore said she'd seen the plane fall into the sea, but the plane nor its passengers were ever found.
Jacqueline Priestman, the Electrifying Lady
In 1980 Jacqueline Priestman started noticing that she had a strange effect on certain electrical appliances. Lightbulbs would explode when she touched them and her vacuum cleaner kept burning out for no reason and the television would even change channels with no one operating the remote. She was diagnosed with an extreme build-up of static electricity but the reason she was afflicted by it has never been determined.
I think she needed to be grounded.:shrug:
Melungeons
French traders settling North America in the late 1600's found a colony of people in Appalachia that looked like North Africans with dark olive skin and European features. The origin of this colony isn't clear, but they spread throughout the Appalachian region and may be descended from Ottoman Turks. They were brought to the area as servants and abandoned.

Flight 19 consisted of a crew of five Avenger torpedo bombers. After leaving Fort Lauderdale on December 5, 1945, they headed south. The whole crew got really turned around, and no matter how much they tried to head north to Miami they got more lost. By night fall, the base had no more communications with Flight 19, and the planes were never recovered. It is believed that the crew disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle.
Helicopter Hieroglyphs
This carving seems to depict modern technology. Which include helicopters and other vessels which has led some people to believe that alien civilizations could have visited the Egyptians. Experts say that photographs of the carvings may have been retouched, causing key details to be removed.
Scandinavian Ghost Rockets
In 1946 there were about about 2000 sightings of rocket / missile shaped objects were reported in Scandinavia. Most of the reports came from Sweden. Although investigators determined that they were most likely meteors, there is still debate to this day about the nature and provenance of the mysterious rockets.

Wenseslao Moguel
Wenseslao Moguel was a Mexican suspected of being involved in the Mexican revolution. He was arrested on March 18, 1915 and was sentenced to death with no trial. His attempted execution came by firing squad in which he was shot 8 to 9 times and even finished off with one in the head. He was found next to corpses lying unconscious but alive, and received medical attention and walked away. How he was able to survive this remains an insane mystery.

The Bouvet Island Lifeboat
Bouvet Island is off the coast of Antarctica and has no inhabitants due to the fact that plant life cannot grow there. A British expedition in 1964 however an abandoned lifeboat in a lagoon on the island, along with oars, wood, and a drum. The boat was in good condition, but no one could trace it back to any company or even any country. When they went back two years later, the boat and all the things with it had disappeared.
Sightings at Hockomock Swamp
This is the Hockomock Swamp located in South Massachusetts. The swamp is located in the center of the "Bridgewater Triangle" which is an area with a lot of reported paranormal activity. There have been sightings of Bigfoot, Thunderbirds, and other strange paranormal events.
The Black Dahlia Mystery
Elizabeth Short died in a very mysterious and gruesome way. Her body was discovered in a park in Los Angeles in two pieces. She had been cut in two and her death is one of the oldest unsolved case in L.A.
The Butler Street Poltergeist
In 1959, a house on Butler Street in Springfield, Massachusetts had 39 of its windows broken over the course of a week. The windows appeared to have broken inwardly. No evidence of a crime was found, and to this day, many believe it may have been the work of a poltergeist.
The Devil's Footprints
In 1855, various trails of hoof-like marks appeared in the snow, covering a distance of anywhere between 40 and 100 miles in England. The marks were allegedly made by a cloven hoof, such as those possessed by Satan himself. Creepy!

The Disappearance of Jim Gray
Jim Gray was a computer scientist who left on a yacht voyage from San Francisco in 2007. His boat disappeared with him on it and has never been located. Even more strange is that his boat was equipped with a system that should have begun transmitting as soon as he began to sink, but no distress signal was ever reported. He was legally declared dead but it's still unknown what actually happened to him.
Rongorongo
This plaque with glyphs written all over it was discovered on Easter Island. The language has never been able to be deciphered even though they were discovered back in the 19th century. It is estimated that the writings were made anywhere between the 12 and 1600's

Joshua Slocum headed off to the Grand Cayman islands from the U.S. in 1909. He was the very first man to circumnavigate the globe all on his own. His voyage this time though proved to be his final one as him and his ship were never ever seen again.
The Disappearance of Amelia Earhart
The famous pilot Amelia Earhart disappeared over the Pacific Ocean while trying to complete a flight around the globe in 1937. Some believe that she ran out of fuel and crashed into the ocean while others think that she landed on Gardner Island. Her real fate has never been solved.
The Dyatlov Pass Incident
Nine hikers all lost their lives in the Ural mountains on the night of February 2nd 1959. According to the investigators all occupants fled their tents and some even without any shoes or socks. While there was no signs of struggle found tome of the men were found to have fractured skulls. The reason behind what happened to them is still unknown.
The Eilean Mor Lighthouse
In December of 1900, a lighthouse keeper named Joseph Moore was making his way to his new post on the island of Eilean Morvoff the coast of Scotland. When Moore arrived at the lighthouse the lighthouse and the entire island were empty. No storms had occurred recently and at least one of the keepers left the lighthouse without his coat. No one knows what happened to them to this day.
The Esperanza Stone
This stone was discovered in 1909 by two Caucasian men who were exploring Mexico. The stone is full of symbols that no one has been able to translate. They could be Mayan, but they've never been deciphered.
The Ghostly Hand of Francis Leavy
Francis Leavy was a fire fighter who was in the middle of washing the windows at his station when he and his crew responded to a fire in Chicago in 1924. Leavy would lose his life during the call. Upon returning to the fire station, some of the other men noticed that Leavy's hand print was still on the window he'd been washing. The hand print was unable to be removed regardless of how hard cleaners scrubbed it.
The Greytown Noises
In 1867 the passengers and crew on a Royal Mail steamer ship heard strange noises while off the coast of Nicaragua. The noises sounded like loud, high-pitched metallic vibrations that traveled through the hull of the ship. Other metal ships reported the sound as well, but wooden ships never did. The source of the noise has never been explained.

Tara Leigh Calico left her house on September 20, 1988 when she was only 19 years old. She was never seen again and this photograph was found 9 months later. Investigators believed that the woman in the photo might be Calico, but no leads ended up panning out.
