Alright for those of you loose cannons crazy enough to follow the rookie making his debut yesterday congratulations. You're $2 wealthier!
Let's hit a couple today...
Angels -121 [Jackson/Saunders]: Double
Edwin Jackson has only faced one solid lineup in his past six starts. In that game (at Boston) he was tagged for 9 hits and 4 earned through 4 innings of work. He takes on a tough Halo squad this afternoon as they try to fight off being swept at home. Albeit a day game, the Halos will still put 25,000+ in the seats so Jackson won't get much of a break from the home crowd. In his last outing at the big A, he was touched up for 6 runs on 9 hits in five innings. The Angels counter with Joe Saunders who is making his first start back from a 15-day DL stint due to tightness in his shoulder. Scioscia has spoken to Joe's health and says he looks great in the pen, so there is plenty of reason to believe the savvy lefty can return to form and give the Angels a QS today. Add that the Tigers are hitting just .221 vs LHP this year on the road, and .194 vs LHP their past 10 games. Angel-killer Curtis Granderson is listed as questionable, and will likely get the day off vs. the lefty.
Braves -1.5 (-110) [Stauffer/Kawakami]: Single
Kawakami has been nails lately posting a an ERA under 2 and a WHIP just over 1 his past 3 outings; two of which came against very legit lineups in Philly and LAD. He has been marvelous at home all season and should mow right through the light hitting Pad squad (.210 team BA past 10 games). The Braves will be looking to come out swinging after being held to 1 run last night in an extra innings loss. Expect a nice rebound and a wire-to-wire victory.
Cardinals -140 [Oswalt/Piniero]: Single
Terrific pitching matchup here. Oswalt had a nice outing last time out against the lowly Dbacks but in his previous two starts he was tagged for 5 and 6 runs respectively. In his last outing at St. Louis the Red Birds hung 6 earned on him in an 11-2 route. Countering is Piniero, who outside of a thrashing handed to him by the Mets in early August, has been quality in every start dating back into June. In his lone start vs the Stros this year he surrended just two earned in 6.2 in a victory. He will face a lineup hitting just .211 vs RHP over their last 10 so he shouldn't have to be spectacular to keep them in check.
Diamondbacks/Giants UNDER 7.5 [Davis/Sanchez]: Triple
Outside of a rough outing vs. a very difficult Phillies lineup in his last time out, Davis has been quality dating back over a month. He will go deep into games to minimize the damage of the suspect Arizona bullpen, and will face a SF squad that has hit about .220 vs LHP as of late. In Davis' lone start at SF this year he tossed 8 innings of shutout ball. The Giants send Jonathan Sanchez to the mound. He hasn't had one of his blow up outings in over a month (@ COL) and has only allowed 2 earned over his past 12 IP. He has dominated AZ this year to the tune of 1 run on 5 hits over 12.1 innings. Mark Reynolds is still out sick, and Pablo Sandoval is doubltful so each lineup is missing their best hitters. Gotta love that.
Best of luck... :toast:
