mjones,
Very classy post, even from a gomer.
J/K!
OK, I'll go on the record now. IF the aggies win, I'll put on my dunce cap, sit in the corner, and NEVER make fun of you guys again!
Honestly, I'll respect an A&M win over Va Tech. Don't think it will happen, but I'll realize that their football team sacked up to beat a damn good Va Tech team.
I realize that getting Yates back should help out but I don't think it will be enough. You also mentioned A&M getting a double digit victory. Let me remind you this isn't a directional La. team they're playing - this is Va. f-ing Tech. They EAT careless and poor offensive/special teams programs for lunch, and that's what A&M is. There's no doubt that A&M's defense will hold the VaTech offense to one of their lower, if not lowest, output of the season. However, A&M's offense will be lucky to muster a couple of FGs. Unless the ags pull off a defensive score, they won't hit double-digits, much less WIN by double digits, meaning VaTech only has to get to 10-14 points to win. It'll be low scoring and close, but I can' t see how A&M win's if they can't score.
My prediction for the game is as follows:
V Tech leads a close game at the half. Ag D holds VT to 10 points. Another TD for VT in the 3rd. Aggie O plows ahead for 1 first down per 2 series. Aggie D collapses from exhaustion at beginning of 4th and VT scores a quick TD. Both teams put in the scrubs and Reggie McNeal freelances for lone aggie TD of game. Final score VT 24 A&M 13.
Regarding Vasher, he is listed as "questionable" for the UH game. Not sure if it was noticable on TV or not, but Vasher did twist an ankle against UNC in the second quarter, and Edorian McCullough (true fresh) came in to replace him. Vasher only missed a few plays, then returned for the rest of the game. Interestingly, we were in nickel for a few of these plays, and Huff slid over and played corner, while Griffin stayed inside at SS.
As far as the pecking order goes in the secondary, I don't think there are absolutes at this point, and I don't think where some of these guys line-up this season is necessarily an indicator for the future. My guess would be that Griffin is probably considered the third best "cover" guy we've got right now, and that if Vasher and Babers were to disappear, he and Huff would be the corners this season, with Edorian as #3 corner. I say this because while Huff is the starter at SS, Griffin has gotten many more snaps at SS so far this season - which indicates to me that the coaches are pushing to get Griffin more experience for the future (much like they did with Vasher in 2000, 2001). Also, we've got a fine tradition of starting careers at Safety, in preparation for a later career move to Corner (see Jammer and Vasher). Regardless, I would hope that Vasher sits out this game.
Our DT Tubbs was reported as having a concussion and is listed as questionable as well. If he can't go on Saturday, then highly touted Freshman Rodrique Wright will fill in and there shouldn't be much of a drop-off there. Dibbles should also see some action this weekend. So to answer your question, no this doesn't stir the pot for our team. We had some good players get banged up in the UNC game and since we're so deep as those positions, you'll see a lot of talented Freshmen filling in for the UH game.
Hope that helps and have fun at the game!
