ytd: 6-3; +2.30
Yesterday - Lost with the Padres. Can't really complain here as they were just beaten by a better pitching performance. If you would have told me that SD would hold the Expos to 2 runs, I would have unloaded. Great job by Armas.
Today - Best play - Anaheim Angels
The Angels just continue to play well and get good starts from pitchers. Valdes goes today against Castillo and brings an era about 1.5 runs less to the table. Castillo has gone 0-2 in last 3 starts with an era of 9.00. The novelty of a new manager must have worn off after yesterday's embarassing loss to the Orioles. Ahead 6-1, the Sox bullpen was good for 8 earned runs. With Ramirez and Everett out, the Angels only look better. Take the Angels - about -140.
Play #2 Oakland A's -160
You can't go wrong playing the A's. They battle for every game. They are on another streak, 4 in a row. Cleveland comes in having dropped 2 of last 3 to Angels. While Finley finally looked decent last out, he still sports a hefty 6.28 era and the Tribe faces lefty Zito. That could be a factor as the hottest Tribe hiter of late is lh Thome. Look for the A's to win again.
Play #3 Chicago White Sox -120
Don't like taking team on bad side of a streak, but Sox played the A's tough and many have lost 3 to Oakland.Sox played pretty well and likely should have won yesterday, knocking out 13 hits against Oakland staff. In fact, only half of A's runs were earned. Lowe is 6-3 versus Royals with an era almost 2.00 runs better than Stein. Sweeney is still out and the Sox have clubbed some 50 home runs more than the Royals, who are 24 games under .500. Take the White Sox.
Play #4 New York Yankees -160
It is tempting to go against NYY here for a few reasons, but getting a pitcher that is 16-1 at -160 doesn't seem like too bad an idea. Clemens last loss was May 20 and he hasn't given up a home run in last 4 games. Heiling pitchers better than normal vs. NYY, but has an era almost 2 runs lower than the Rocket (5.27 to 3.46). Is there any argument about which team has the better bullpen? The Rangers team era is nearly 6; the Yanks less than 4. Some may look for a let down here by the Yankees. But you have the Cy Young winning pitcher on the mound for a first place team facing a last place team. At -160, don't look for a reason to go against the Yanks.
