First Time For Everything

By SPORTSBETTING.COM

The Miami Dolphins put an end this week to the negative theme that was starting to haunt the team as the season wore along, beating the Baltimore Ravens 22-16 straight-up.

Trailing 13-3 at half-time, this contest had all the makings of any other Dolphin misadventure, with very little being offered in the way of hope for Fish fans as the players took the field to start the second half.

Perhaps head coach Cam Cameron?s latest self-help tape included with it a magic elixir, however, because things started going the way of the Dolphin immediately after the second half began. Ball control, a touchdown, a couple of field goals and some overtime were just a few departments that went right for Miami that day and now one of the great streaks of 2007 is finally over.

Champagne bottles were heard being popped across America Sunday; dozens of prop bets were settled and the cloak of shame was removed ? and all of this just describes the scene around the Dolphin wives? houses ? as the Dolphins improved to 1-13 on the year.

It wasn?t the only ?first? of Week 15 and while the label started to wear thin as the days went on, a few of the happenings around the NFL certainly raised an eyebrow or two for armchair QBs everywhere.

- On Thursday night, Houston started off the week by wearing all red outfits for the first time ever in their matchup against Denver. The Texans were solid for most of the game, making the most out of red zone opportunities and getting excellent play on the defensive side of the ball as they evened their record at 7-7 SU. The Texans are at Indy this week, but how much do you want to bet they go back to the red-on-red in Week 17 when the Jags are in town to finish off the regular season schedule?

- Speaking of Indy, the Colts held off a late surge from the Raiders to improve their team record to 12-2 SU, becoming the first-ever NFL team to record 12 wins for the fifth consecutive time during the regular season. Indy locked up a bye in the first round of the playoffs on Sunday and did so with a handful of backups in the lineup, too, and people still say the Colts are flying under the radar.

- Carolina Panthers QB Matt Moore made his first-ever NFL start against the Seattle Seahawks, filling in for the aging and ailing Vinny Testaverde, and it was actually the fourth different starter that the Panthers have used all year. Moore notched a rare home win for Carolina, too, and it looks like he could be the go-to guy the rest of the way.

- Kansas City knows how important a solid starting pivot can be, but as the Chiefs hobbled their way to a seventh consecutive loss for the first time since 1987, knowing what a solid pivot can do vs. actually having one that can do anything seems like a bit of pipe dream.

- And the greatest ?first? of the National Football League?s Week 15, the one that has already received a ton of ink but certainly deserves a little more, has got to go to Green Bay quarterback Brett Favre. Favre, who finished the day with 227 passing yards, has officially completed his quest to re-write the record books by eclipsing Dan Marino as the NFL?s all-time leading passer.

Favre now sits majestically with 61,405 passing yards in his career and counting, but more importantly for he and rest of the Green Bay Packers organization, also secured their first bye in the opening round of the playoffs since 1997.

And some people said it was time for Favre to retire?

Good luck with this weekend?s card.
