I have a great idea for the UN, if they want to be a part of the Freedom mission now that most of the fighting is over. In Vietnam the people that really had the most dangerous jobs were the poor MP that stood in waste high sandbagged bunkers on any access road or street to control foot and auto traffic. They were standing targets for snipers and drivebys and I always felt more comfortable in the bush regardless of how "secure" an area was supposed to be.

If the UN really wants to help have them take up positions every other block to control traffic and protect the freedom we are bringing to this country's citizens who just want a safe place to live. The guarding would probably be a five year (do I hear 10?) declining deal until a stabilized government is fully able to protect itself and its people. The UN countries (France, Germany, Russia) could man the positions and pay for the process.:thefinger

It would be a great test to find out if they really wanted to "help" after a few suicidal bombers.

Just a thought.
