What is up with the way teams line up on the extra ppoint?

I know you guys know what im talking about, where the kicker and holder are in front of the sticks and then the whole line is to the left and then right before the snap they get in posistion. Why do they do this?

Oh here is a pic for your troubles :thumb:

I've been watching this for a few years now and I know why.

The holder and the kicker were unknown subjects to a practical joke and given "chocolate mints" but in reality were given Exlax chewables. After standing on the sideline so long and nowhere to go, they proceeded to shit themselves which would result in a rather smelly huddle. Instead of huddling up and possibly creating a chain-reaction of puking football players, they line-up over to the left, the center barks out, "Hold your breath!" and then they hustle over, snap the ball and if all goes well, the kick is good.

Hope this helps.

its kinda like the 'step toward third and look to catch the guy leaning off first' move in baseball. its a way to see if the defense or opponent is napping or mis-aligned. if the holder really wants to, he can try to run/pass it in for a two-pt conversion depending what the defense gives them or what the predetermined play is. once in a blue moon youll see a holder/kicker option. once in a blue moon youll see a screen pass. 99% of the time, they just waste time before settling back into a convential PAT formation, lol

the formation is called 'the swinging gate'

of note, and it's been a longtime, but the center is an eligible receiver if it is snapped while the line and upbacks are off to the side.

we either snapped it to the up back if they lined up with 7 or less on the big group, or ran the option/option pass if they lined up with 2 or less on the center. kicker and holder run the veer and the center flares out for a pass.

if they lined up 8 and 3, the gate would swing around into position and we would kick the extra point/FG unless it was a called play from the sideline.
