Bodog Sportsbook posted odds on who will be the winner of the 11 th edition of the Emmy award-winning series Survivor.
The online sportsbook, casino and poker site, now considered the ?go to? source for television proposition bets, announced the odds on the candidates vying for the $1 million payoff in the jungles of South America.
?I am always amazed by the amount of interest the Survivor series generates among our bettors,? says Calvin Ayre, Founder and CEO of Bodog. ?Our pop-culture bettors have such a deep understanding and knowledge of the show that they have successfully predicted the winners of each of the past Survivor editions.?
The last Survivor edition, which took place on the Pacific island chain of Palau, saw 75% of Bodog bettors back the winner Tom Westman.
The 11 th edition of Survivor features in its 16-player roster, a one-time Dallas Cowboys quarterback named Gary Hogeboom, a sports radio talk show host, a zookeeper, and two Ivy League graduates.
The Bodog sportsbook managers use certain criteria when coming up with the
contestants? rankings. The criteria include: Historical evidence, such as the character make-up of past winners and losers; demographics, such as gender, age, and physical attributes; and sentimental and popular culture value - an assessment of how the general public feels about each
contestant.
Just recently, Bodog announced that it had created a separate committee to monitor the betting action on reality television proposition bets. During one of the Survivor editions, Bodog sportsbook managers noticed a few suspicious bets being placed on its Survivor odds. It was later revealed that a few insiders at CBS were betting heavy on one of the contestants, as they had knowledge of the winner prior to it being made available to the public.
?We learned from that experience, and now know how to detect it before it happens again. It is a risk, but one that we are willing to take. The entertainment props are designed for the average bettors who enjoy wagering as it enhances the watching experience of their favorite reality television shows,? says Ayre.
Currently, the two contestants that are considered favorites at 2/1 odds are Danni, a sports radio talk show host; and Gary, an ex- NFL quarterback turned real-estate developer. At 20/1 odds, Lydia, a fishmonger from Washington State is slated to be the first axed.
