i am a guppy. let me say that right off. i am a nine to fiver, ham and egger with a stay at home wife and two sons under 5.

so my prefered unit of choice is a fin, a dollar during football (couple dollars if I feel real good) and once a nickel. I have never bet a dime and believe i would have a coronary if i did. I won the nickel last year when oregon state dismantled notre dame and watched the game alone in a dark room :) I had followed state all year and was just waiting for that game.

Sidenote: to soothe my pride at being such a small fish, I have only had two losing seasons in the past ten and can usually afford a very nice gift for my wife or family vacation at the end of football season all the while dreamin of the fed ex checks ray gets ;-).

anyway since i am such a small player I do most of my plays off shore. Most books would rather not bother with me and I like the convenience of the computer rather than tracking down the man to get a play in. Plus I always keep my account pretty small (less than a nickel) for fear of some problem so transfering on the credit card is easy like that.

generally i use intertops as it was recommended by a friend a few years ago and has gone pretty smoothly. until...

last night I'm putting in my plays and decide to check the board. I see ray with a couple outlaw plays and decide to put a little on it. i go to put some money into the account using my credit card (that I've been using for over a year) and it comes back denied. over the course of two hours (which I can't get my plays in of course) i go back and forth with intertops and my credit card co trying to get it to work.

Basically the credit card company computer suddenly didn't like that this charge was coming from a non US destination. 3 times the credit card co told me it had been reset and would work and three times denied (i am thinking of dropping the card i am so pissed) Finally i used some firepay thing to do it (intertops reccommend).

A few questions

1. Anybody had these problems before

2. what is the status of the on-line game bill that has been around the past couple years. At first people said it was definately going to pass but then the public went against it and last i heard it was just about dead. I like being able to use my internet that way and don't wanna lose it so just wanna make sure that I don't need to be writing somebody (politician) about it right now.

3. What is the legality of the whole deal in terms of talking about it with the card co. Everybody asked what is the charge for and my standard reply was it was an internet transaction into an account. The first two people were definately a little wary in talking about the "company" and "transaction" but the third person was like it'll definately work this time you'll be able to bet now.

any input

I have had the same problem as you did. I have accounts at Intertops, AcesGold, and Gameday. I just opened an account at GameDay and my first credit card was refused. I used another and it worked. I have had this same problem with Intertops. Some credit card companies are not allowing Non US transactions and some are. I was told by my one credit card company that they will not authorize any non US transaction in fear of it being for "Gambling" purposes.

As far as the legality of it all, all I know is that talking to the credit card companies, they know exactly what you're transactions are for. No one is fooling no one. If what is happening is illegal, then the credit card companies that are allowing these transactions are just as guilty as anyone else. I'll let them fight my battles for me.

This is a reaction from credit card companies to gambling related businesses. The reason for this is because a few individuals ran up their credit cards to the max on gambling deposits, lost it all. The most popular being a woman in California, who ran up $75,000 in credit card losses. They then sued the credit card company because they claimed it was illegal from their state and the credit card company should not have allowed it in the first place. Not sure what the outcome of the suit was, but credit card comapnies don't want to take chances with gambling related industries.

I can't use my credit card OR my debit card.
The debit card thing hacks me the most because in that case it's MY money.
Maybe this goes back to the legality issue.

One thing to know is that the Curacao books will do store-to-store transfers for you, but both stores must be in Curacao.

[sigh]

why can't people be responsible for themselves anymore? why would you sue your credit card co because you use bad money management (in life not in gambling terms).

what's next, they sue because their credit line was so high arguing that they wouldn't have been able to buy all those clothes and stereos if the line wasn't so high.

funny sidenote on life: my sons are three and five. they both have a chore's list (simple stuff, clear your dishes, brush your teeth, pick up toys, help mommy, etc) and they know that at the end of the week my wife gives them an allowance based on how many chores are checked.

They use this money to buys toys from the dollar store or wherever. Anything they want as long as they can afford it. A couple weeks ago my wife is explaining to the oldest one how he doesn't have enough money to buy something and the five year old looks at her and says "mommy I'm tired of this. don't they have any stores where THEY give YOU money"

no son they don't :)

On the course!
I can no longer access Intertops, either.

They have shit lines, anyway, so parting company with them is no big deal.

none
I had that problem last year, but it was sporadic. They allowed a couple, and denied another. Curious thing is they have NO problem allowing any credits back. Anyway, the issuing bank is "supposed" to allow it if you call up and ask them to. Sorry you had the problems, but I am glad you got in and got your $$ down. On ATL I hope!
