This guys death shouldn't go unnoted,even though people understandably aren't posting or lurking here in early September.A great college basketball coach and 100 percent character checked out this week,Abe Lemons,aka the Will Rogers of college basketball.Abe was funny as all hell,treated all people well and with respect,and was an innovative coach (eg. used a run and gun O in and before 1965.) Even Bobby Knight thought he was smart.But funny was the most memorable trait:"Son,you just got one more rebound than a dead man" Abe told his center at the half of a game in which the center had just garnered a single rebound.When asked what type of zone defense he used in a particular game where-in the opposition had just scored about 115 points Abe drawled"We call that one The Sieve".He really disliked Eddie Sutton because he felt that Sutton forgot that "he used to have to walk to the outhouse as a kid,just like I did."Good-Bye Abe,you were truely one of a kind.
