Round 1 play (2pts):

Martin Laird to beat Paul Casey -110 @ Stan James
Casey did win the Irish Open a couple of weeks ago, which sounded as much as a surprise to himself as to everyone else - he was very low in confidence and was still playing in pain (his big toe) after a series of injuries over the years. This is his last chance to get in the Open Championship and unless he wins, he won't be playing which indicates how far he has fallen. Having played on this course last year and finished ahead of just three people in the 156-player field, it appears very unlikely that he will win again this week. For Laird, it is much more likely. He won the Texas Open in April when struggling for form, but has picked up significantly over the last couple of months. He also finished 16th on this course last year so it appears rather likely that he win continue his dominance in this matchup: in the eleven times that these two players have competed in the same event since the start of last season, Casey has never finished ahead of Laird.

Round 3 plays (2pts):

Phil Mickelson to beat Paul Casey -120 @ Stan James
Continuing to oppose Casey even though he got back into contention with a 2nd round 67. He still trails Mickelson who has finished in the top-3 in each of the last three cuts that he has made and whose creativity in his shotmaking makes him more suited to links golf than his opponent.

Francesco Molinari to beat Chris Paisley -200 @ Stan James [available generally]
Last year's playoff loser should be able to beat Paisley as least twice as many times as he loses to him, particularly as Paisley has an unusually high leaderboard position. Paisley has only been within 3 shots of the lead after 36 holes on two previous occasions and they were both on the Challenge Tour: he still 75 and 76 on those occasions in rd3. In the one previous time that he has been inside the top-20 of a European Tour event after two rounds (2013 Trophee Hassan II), he then shot 75 in rd3.

Phil Mickelson to beat Lee Slattery -177 @ Pinnacle [available generally]
This is the first time that Slattery has been paired with Mickelson and I don't see him coping with the pressure and the distractions easily. He has struggled from tee-to-green so far this week and that does not bode well for tomorrow.

[unofficial rd3 system plays: Wiesberger tb Henry -189; Ilonen tb Lee -138]

Round 4 play (2pts):

Paul McGinley to beat Chris Lloyd -110 @ 5Dimes
Small play on seasoned-links player McGinley in the final round. He ranks better than Lloyd in driving distance, driving accuracy and greens in regulation this week so he has better ball control than his opponent who has also struggled in the final round this year, averaging 74.22 in nine Sunday rounds in 2013.
