SATURDAY'S GAMES 8/10

Green Bay Packers - QB Rotation: Bret Favre (1-2 series), Doug Pederson (2nd Q), Craig Nall (3rd+ Qs).

No live tackling drills this week, meaning they will play the Eagles having had only 20 plays in the entire camp with live tackling drills. Offensive line hurting. Wide receivers thin. Offensive coordinator Tom Rossley said there is a lot of competition among five candidates for the backup running back spot. The first couple preseason games - Aug. 10 at Philadelphia and Aug. 17 at Arizona - will serve a great purpose in weeding out the haves from the have-nots in determining Ahmad Green's backup.

?We are pretty sore as a football team," said coach Mike Sherman after Tuesday's practice.

Philadelphia Eagles - QB Rotation: Donovan McNabb 1 Q, Koy Detmer 2Q, A.J. Feeley likely to play most of the 2nd Half. Tim Hasselbeck may mop up.

RB Doresy Levens has a sprained pinky finger. Defensive line thin, with Corey Simon (groin) and Hollis Thomas (broken foot) hurting. "I was worried about the depth if a guy got hurt," defensive coordinator Jim Johnson said. "Now a guy got hurt, and now I'm worried. We're going to have to address that."

New England Patriots - QB Rotation: Tom Brady, Damon Huard, rookie Rohan Davey (exact amount of playing time not announced). Belichick said Brady will play only as long as the starting offensive line and RB Antowain Smith are in the game Saturday, likely about 1Q.

Pass receiving corps is thin, with Troy Brown and rookie TE Daniel Graham (#1 pick from Colorado) hurting. Offensive line hurting. Defensive backs thin.

New York Giants - QB Rotation: Kerry Collins, Jessie Palmer, Jason Garrett (exact amount of playing time not known).

RB Tiki Barber (ribs) is Questionable.

St. Louis Rams - QB Rotation: Kurt Warner, Jamie Martin, Marc Bulger (exact amount of playing time not known).

To protect his star running back, coach Mike Martz said he won't play RB Marshall Faulk Saturday. Instead, Trung Canidate and rookie Lamar Gordon will get a lot of work.

With defensive lineman Tyoka Jackson (knee) and defensive tackle Damione Lewis (foot) sidelined by surgeries, the defensive line depth is a weakness. K Jeff Wilkins is hurting and may not play. WR Ricky Proehl is out.

Tennessee Titans - QB Rotation: Steve McNair (1 Q), Neil O'Donnell (questionable with a sore shoulder), then Billy Volek. If O'Donnel can't go, then Volek will get his snaps and play the majority of the game.

Coach Jeff Fisher said, "We want to see that Billy Volek a year from now can eventually be the #2 QB. So he?ll get a chance to play quite a bit in preseason. The first couple of games we?ll play Steve (McNair) and Neil (O?Donnell) and then we?ll work Billy into probably game three, although he will play in every game.

Fisher plans on playing running backs Eddie George, Skip Hicks, Robert Holcombe and John Simon ? in that order ? against the Rams.

"From Wednesday evening concerning the game plan vs. St. Louis:
We?ve done absolutely nothing. We?re still working on the offense and defense, so the staff will start looking at it. The players for the most are going to have to study them on their own, so they?ve got a lot to get caught up on as far as filmwork goes. We?ll give them a sheet so they?ll know what to expect to go on in the game, but we?re not really going to do anything specific with the Rams."

Starters will likely play the 1Q. Defense banged up. DTs Albert Haynesworth, Joe Salave'a and Robaire Smith are hurting, leaving the defensive line thin.

Washington Redskins - QB Rotation: Shane Matthews (1st Half), Danny Wuerffel and Sage Rosenfels will split the 2nd half.

CB Champ Bailey dilocated his pinkie finger and is Out.

Carolina Panthers - QB Rotation: Chris Weinke (1st Q), Rodney Peete and rookie Randy Fasani are expected to then split time.

The starters will play the first quarter.

Wideout is one of the team's thinnest positions -- short on depth, with only modest experience. One observer of Carolina under new coach John Fox: "Get ready for a bunch of 15-12 games. The Carolina Panthers have become a ball-control team." K John Kasay is questionable.

Coach Fox said, "Roughly, we will play our first team the first quarter in the first game. They will play the first half in the second game. In the third game, they will play the first half and start the third quarter. Then in the fourth game, they will play a series to a quarter, and the back-ups will finish the game."

Houston Texans - QB Rotation: David Carr (30 plays); Kent Graham (2Q), Mike Quinn (3Q) and Ben Sankey will follow Carr.

Houston played Monday, losing 34-17 to the Giants. "In every phase of the game, inconsistency hurt us," Texans coach Dom Capers said. "We were not consistent enough to go out and win a game." Punters Chad Stanley, John Baker and Aron Langley are all fighting for the job and currently Special Teams coach Joe Marciano is searching waiver wires: "They're not hitting them far enough and they're not hanging them high enough. Other than that, they're alright."

The Texans have five offensive linemen out with injuries: Tony Boselli (shoulder), Max Lane (knee), Mike Newell (shoulder), Ryan Young (groin) and Cris Lorenti (achilles).

New Orleans Saints - QB Rotation: Aaron Brooks, Jake Delhomme, Jeff Lewis, rookie J.T. O'Sullivan (exact amount of playing time not known).

The offensive line and defensive secondary is thin. WR Donte Stallworth (Hamstring) is out. Saints plan to utilize RB Deuce McAllister in a lot more passing plays, much like the role played by the Ram's Marshall Faulk.

The Saints have been sluggish in practice: "I thought they were fine Saturday, but (Sunday) I thought we were sluggish in both practices," coach Jim Haslett said. "It's that time of the year when you really have to concentrate on what you're doing, focus on catching the balls and your assignments. This is a time when everybody feels sorry for themselves and they get tired. You've got to be mentally tough in this business to fight through this stuff."

Denver Broncos - QB Rotation: Brian Griese 10- 15 plays, Steve Beuerlein followed by Jarious Jackson with the two splitting remaining time.

RB Rotation: Terrell Davis 12-15 plays, Orlandis Gary 12-15 plays with Clinton Portis finishing the game. Wide receivers thin (Rod Smith and Ed McCaffrey are not expected to play much in Saturday night's preseason opener.)

Chicago Bears - QB Rotation: Jim Miller 10-15 plays, Chris Chandler 10-15 plays, then Henry Burris will take over and play most of the game. Offensive line banged up.

Jim Miller left practice Wednesday to receive treatment on his Achilles' tendon. Kickers Paul Edinger and Jon Hilbert will alternate kicks and kickoffs.

Cleveland Browns - QB Rotation: Tim Couch (1st Q), Kelly Holcomb. Coach Butch Davis said he wants to play his starters for 12 to 15 plays in Minnesota.

Running back is thin. The Browns intended to be a smash-mouth offense with 240-lb RB James Johnson. But Johnson's neck injury could keep him out two to five weeks, and top-draft pick William Green (Boston College) is also injured.

Minnesota Vikings - QB Rotation: Daunte Culpepper (1st Q), Todd Baumann (2nd Q), Shaun Hill (3rd Q). Spergon Wynn and Romaro Miller may mop up.

The offensive line is banged up and a work in progress. Injuries and rookie tackle Bryant McKinnie's holdout have affected the depth on the offensive line. WR Derrick Alexander is missing extensive work with a calf injury; it's prevented the Vikings from doing some of the things they would like to do in three-receiver sets. The offensive staff still are installing pieces of the complete offensive puzzle.

K.C. Chiefs - QB Rotation: Trent Green 1Q, Todd Collins 2Q, Joe Germaine, Jonathan Quinn may split the remaining time, but Vermeil says he is still not sure.

TE Tony Gonzalez is still a holdout. Asked about the difference between his team a year ago and this preseason, head coach Dick Vermiel said, "The biggest difference really is the defense: the cohesiveness and the discipline and the adjustments made. Everything by the defensive team is totally different. The play actions, the reverses and all these different things are fine. We still have to clean up problems with screens and draws, but other phases they?re doing a good job.?

S.F. 49ers - QB Rotation: Jeff Garcia 1-2 series, Tim Rattay will then take over and play the bulk of the game, Brandon Doman should finish up the 4th Q. Cade McNown, originally said to have been getting some playing time this week, will now likely not as Mariucci wants to give hum more time to learn the offense before playing him.

Offensive line hurting. The 49ers have been without center Jeremy Newberry since the first day of training camp (torn calf muscle) and starting RG Ron Stone will miss 3 weeks (elbow). The 49ers also don't want to subject starting QB Jeff Garcia to an inexperienced center, fearing he could injure a finger or hand on a bad snap.

The 49ers prepared little for the Redskins (a 38-7 loss) and don?t expect that approach to change as Kansas City comes to town. ?Not much,? coach Steve Mariucci said about the preparation for the Chiefs. "We still have fundamentals to work on, so I wouldn?t expect us to spend much time on the Chiefs.?

Indianapolis Colts - QB Rotation: Peyton Manning (1-2 series) followed by Brock Huard who should see most of the playing time. Corey Sauter and rookie Greg Zolman may mop up. McNown is expected to play this against Kansas City. The defense is banged up.

RB Edgerrin James (knee) will not play until the final preseason game. Coach Tony Dungee is teaching the Colts to swarm on defense. It's part of a revamped "speed kills" defensive scheme that coordinator Ron Meeks refers to as "the pirhana defense." "Be piranhas," said rookie DT Larry Tripplett. "We are into the ball, no matter what."

Seattle Seahawks - QB Rotation: Trent Dilfer (1Q+) followed Matt Hassellbeck and Jeff Kelly. Holmgren on Dilfer: "He might play a little bit more than we've done in the past just to make sure he gets enough playing time."

OT Chris McIntosh is Out. Offensive line thin.

Arizona Cardinals - QB Rotation: Jake Plummer, Chris Greisen, rookie Josh McCown (Sam Houston State). Amount of QB playing time not known.

Pass receivers thin.

S.D. Chargers - QB Rotation: Doug Flutie 12-15 snaps, Drew Brees 12-15 snaps, Dave Dickenson and Seth Burford will split the rest of the game.

Running back LaDainian Tomlinson has a protective boot over his sprained left ankle and coach Marty Schottenheimer said "the probability is that he will not play" in Saturday's game vs.Arizona.

Schottenheimer said he would like to beat the Cardinals because "we've got to begin to work at learning how to win and understanding how to win."
