Has anyone ever gone to Abu Dhabi? Spent any time there? Know what it's like for Americans in the country? The reason I ask is due to some recent life changing events (won't get into it now, but will later), I am considering all kinds of teaching and job ideas. Came across an education group that places teachers there, and the pay, benefits, living allowance, air trip home, etc are pretty great for a teacher. 2 year commitment - would be able to make some great money and it might be an interesting experience. Of course, it might suck, too. I have no idea, just giving it a little due diligence.

I'm not overly considering it, just wonder if anyone has ever been there for any measurable amount of time? Thanks for any input.

It can be very expensive if you don't acclimate to your surroundings. Housing is small and expensive. You get a very diverse crowd there and are certainly isolated as to some of the things you are currently used to. For two years I would definitely do it. Very little violence and a tourism based income obviously. Very wealthy people.

I have a high numbers of friends that have been there, lived there, worked there, spent time there, etc etc.
I've hired people to go there for 1 year tours and such as well.

If you have the ability to snag a gig there, I would recommend it.
If you're going to go there and abandon a wife or kids and mope around for 2 years bitching about how homesick you are and spend your weekends skyping back to the US to talk with your family you are going to hate it though.

Thanks for the info, guys. Recently divorced from my wife after a lot of tough recent years for both of us (life stuff), and just bouncing a lot of ideas around. Really not something I'm seriously considering, but the money would be double for teaching, tax free, housing/room/board paid (no idea what that means), and at least one RT flight paid back to states per year, according to the info. I don't believe all of it, necessarily, but it's an interesting concept.

I think I'd have somewhat a tough time with everything going on to just uproot and leave for two years. Don't think my mind is right yet with the past couple of years of rough patches, and would probably miss a lot here. But, it's intriguing to think about.

Plus, I really want to coach, and I doubt there would be any of that. Unless it was soccer, and that's not my thing...

If you are a certified teacher, which I believe I remember reading from one of your previous posts, then you can make a lot of money teaching in international schools in many places in the world. Fuck the Middle East though. I would recommend going to China. They love basketball there, so you could definitely teach, coach, save a ton of money and :142hump: a lot of lovely Chinese ladies.

If you aren't serious about it, don't look at it anymore. The process is fairly quick. Good opportunity.. and yes.. the perks they tell you with room, board etc etc is all legit.
