Outrights:

Nick Dougherty(90/1) e.w.
- - Lousy prices, bad pairings or wild horses couldn't drag me away during this year's gatherings in the desert. I do not see many events in his immediate future when Nick will be 4+ times the price of Rory Mcilroy.
"It was a rubbish year." http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/go...in-Dunhill-Links-Championship-title-Golf.html

Johan Edfors(90/1) e.w.
- - Last year I read a pre-tournament report from the course that, "Its pissing down atm, they usualy dont get much rain over there, the rough is murderous apparantly, so u will need o be long and straight this week to overcome the course"; report was exactly true, and Kaymer, Stenson (huge 3 woods) and Westwood relied on their driving to finish 1-2-2. I expected the rough to be less penal this year, but the report on European Tour Weekly is that the thick rough is being brushed back toward the tees, apparently to toughen up the course, so now I'm not liking the chances for Edfors to emerge.

David Howell(110/1) e.w.
- - - - Appears I value this forgotten man's chances in the 2009 lid lifter more than he does his own.

Soren Kjeldsen (Tourn) -125 vs Michael Campbell (Tourn)

Fading Campbell, who is not 100% returning from a shoulder injury.
?My shoulder is holding up okay and that?s been my biggest worry over the Christmas and New Year period whether it will hold up this week and so far so good,? he said.

?I?ve given it plenty of rest and along with all the physio treatment I?ve had on it, I am feeling good about returning to competition.

?It was disappointing to miss the events in Australia but the good aspect is that the injury came at a time when I could take a decent period of time off.

?It?s still not 100% fit and I still have to be careful with it but after playing a practice round here on the Abu Dhabi course there was no concern whatsoever.

again C&P. had liked Schwartzel but WD. Also liked the Schwartzel over Immelman bet as by my reckoning Immelman won't have arrived until morning/lunch tuesday after a good 24 hour flight and has never played course previous

Peter Hanson Abu Dhabi Golf Championship 0.4pt ew 50/1 Boylesports
Hanson had a good finish to 2008, following on from his win in August at the SAS Masters. He is one of those golfers who you expect to play well week on week and he can hopefully start 2009 in good on a course he finished 2nd on in 2007.
Alex Noren Abu Dhabi Golf Championship 0.4pt ew 55/1 Bet 365
It didn't take long for our mini obsession with Alex Noren to rear it's head but you can't get past the facts on this bet. He finished last year in great form with Top 5s in two of his last 3 starts and he is an undoubted talent. He finished 11th here last year and hopefully can continue the improvement with a Top 5 this time around.
Thongchai Jaidee Abu Dhabi Golf Championship 0.3pt ew 66/1 SkyBet
Jaidee finished the European Tour in decent form before missing his last two cuts but it is his form on the Asian Tour that catches the eye. Yes, the standard is lower but he won twice in December and has been ultra consistent. He won all three of his games in the Royal Trophy and can go well on a course he has played pretty consistently in the last 3 years.

Outright

Oliver Wilson 50/1 e.w:
Pretty simple here. This guys gives himself chance after chance and eventually he will come through. Hopefully it is this week at 50/1

Pablo Larrazabal 80/1 e.w
: One of my favorite players, very charismatic. Reminds me a little of Kaymer last year, difference is he actually won in his rookie year. I don't think he's played much desert golf but neither had Kaymer.

Rafael Cabrera Bello 125/1 e.w: Another player I belive will win this year and why not earlier in the season while the top players will be shaking off the dust. Bello's been playing lately and playing well in South Africa.

Round 1 plays (1pt):

Phillip Archer to beat Jarmo Sandelin -125 @ Five Dimes
Big difference in course form between these two: Archer led after the 1st round two years ago and was 5th at the cut last year; Sandelin has missed the cut on both previous appearances.

Colin Montgomerie to beat Ross Fisher +115 @ Unibet
Won't be backing Monty too many times this year, but worth a shot against a player who has missed the cut by seven and six shots in his two previous appearances.

Peter Hanson to beat Miguel Angel Jimenez -120 @ Bet365
Padraig Harrington to beat Miguel Angel Jimenez -138 @ Paddy Power [tie loses]
A couple of plays against MAJ who is playing with a wrist injury and was without his own clubs yesterday. Hanson has shown plenty of form over the last three months and finished 2nd here two years ago, while Pod's superior ability can be shown by the fact that the last time that Jimenez finished ahead of him in any event in Europe was 20 months ago.

Q. Inaudible?
HENRIK STENSON: Yeah, given the way I hit it today, it's going to be even rarer tomorrow.

Q. Is it a problem with yourself or --
HENRIK STENSON: It's more a problem with myself.

I think part of the reason, his score was so poor in round 1, was due to the fact he played the wrong ball on one hole
