First of all let me start by saying that I own a site, advertised acesgold, have been a madjack member for many moons with thousands of posts, and tell it like it is...

Acesgold assured all advertising sites that things were going to be ok. Don't anybody think for a second that Jack or anybody else could have seen this coming. Acesgold had been rock solid for YEARS and our contact Gerry's word had always been as good as gold. There's was no reason for us to not believe that Acesgold would be ok, especially since they do a tremendous volume of business.

With that being said, I don't know whether they shut down because of bad business, whether they got smoked, or whatever other reason may be lingering in our minds. My guess is as good as yours.

Please don't blame Jack for this. NOBODY knew this was going to happen. Sure, it may have been brought up at another site but in this industry people have agendas and you really have to let that kind of stuff go in one ear and out the other.

My recommendation is that you spread your loot out over many different outs so you are not vulnerable to this happening again.

Lastly, to those who are recommending that sites such as ours audit our advertisers financials, as neat as that sounds, it's impossible. We can only go with who has a good name, solid business practice, and good track record.

Jack is right, sites such as ours turn down advertising on a regular basis to insure that we provide you the reader with a solid out to play with.

The bottom line here is that WE ALL got FUCKED and we need to move on.

Blaming Jack is complete horseshit. Him and I may be in competition on a business level but I will vouch that he is a standup person whom I have known for many years and trust me when I say it kills him to see this happen.

Take care,

Kevin

I am NOT This Site's Judas!

I am NOT This Site's Judas!

Very well written post! A+++!

I'd like to make one thing perfectly clear! I am NOT blaming Jack!

You've stated it's impossible to check on an advertisor's (offshore's) financials? Aren't they licensed by their country's gaming commission? In order to maintain their license, don't they have to file audited financials with that jurisdiction's regulatory bodies? Aren't those records available for public review?

Also, isn't there a way to check on the history of an offshore? Name changes, ownership changes, management changes, etc.? Records in the licensing agency would bear all of this information out!

You're saying that practically no due dilligence can be performed on these offshore books? Not even on a rudimentary level with the governmental agencies? I find that hard to believe!

It can be argued that a gambling info website and it's owner(s) have a quasi fiduciary duty to it's membership to do it's best under the circumstances to "screen" all advertisors before accepting multiple banners or promoting them ad infinitum!

Screening = making "best efforts" to investigate, no matter how futile the results! The best defense a website owner can muster for a negligence action absent an express posted waiver would be evidence of any efforts (telephone calls, letters and in rare cases, personal visits) made to ascertain the SOLVENCY and SECURITY of it's advertisors!

I'm suggesting that this site (or any for that matter) should have an express waiver posted for the entire membership insulating the site and it's owner(s) from liability due to advertisor screw-ups (take the $$ and run) like Aces Gold!

There's simply too much money being spent by the membership here with these offshore advertisors (books) to not do so!

There should be some wide spread reform in the business in order to avoid a repeat the Aces Gold nightmare!

That's the message I was trying to convey!

I was just steamed about that $5000 Aces Gold NFL Challenge! What a crock! Aces Gold made out with $16,000 "fresh money" (approximately 80 contestants x $200 "entry fee!")

Again, I will not be this site's Judas for merely voicing my opinion and suggesting that this Aces Gold fiasco is a WAKE UP CALL FOR EVERYONE!!

Website owners, know your advertisors! Like the old saying goes, "Lie down and sleep with dogs, you wake up with fleas!"

Again, thanks for your post!

I don't pay Madjacks a dime to use his forum.

It's his time and energy that run the place.

He doesn't owe me anything. If he shut this place down tomorrow, he wouldn't owe any of us anything, and we'd have no reason to raise a complaint.

Do you own investigating before you give someone money. Take some responsibility for your own actions.

That's why places like this are free. They have less of a responsibility to their 'clients' than a business that is charging for service. I'm sure one of those lawyers around here can explain it in the proper terms, but it's all common sense.

And there are some situations which are just bad luck or inevitable. Not everything can be avoided and there's not always someone at fault. In this case, it sure as hell wasn't Jacks fault, nor his responsibility.

Bing-fuhging-Go!

How can some of you keep drilling Jack for this shit?

Have you ever advised anyone on anything? A place to eat? A stock tip? A vacation destination? Etc...............

You do it based on your past experiences.

"Hey, Schmo. You know anywhere I can take my new girlfriend for a great steak?"

"Yeah, try E. Coli's over on Botulism Blvd.......I have never had a bad meal there."

So, you go, she gets sick, and your friend is an asshole for telling you HE has never had a bad experience there? Give us a fucking break! Should he have checked where the food came from? If the cook was state certified? What kind of soap they use to wash the plates?

Maybe Jack should place a waver on every screen stating that "The credibility of the advertisers is the risk of their patrons. Madjacks, in no way, can vouch for the financial standing of it's advertisers "

Would that make you happy?

And that $200 was not an entry fee. You got that $200 in a playable account. Now, I ran mine into dust quite fast, but I'm sure some of the guys who played, got their money out before they lost it!

Every wek some new guy in here asks: "Where's a good place to play?" And there are a bunch of responses: "Try *** or ***....They are two of my favorite outs!"

Every book is great, until YOU get fucked. Bottom line, boys.

One last thing:

As sure as today is tomorrow's yesterday, some of you will get burned by another book down the road. Maybe you can do your own "handicapping" of these places before you send them your cash........

yyz,

You are off the hook bro:D, LOL but you are so correct it is not even funny. IMHO anytime we deal with a book OS or local (unless it's in a legal casino) we take this risk. Just the name of the game folks.

Crack Rat-
IF you believe that these books are required to file ANYTHING with their "regulatory bodies", let alone anthing dealing with finances..then what you know about offshore sportsbooks couldnt fill a thimble.

If you think its all out there, and the market is OUT THERE, and that everyone thinks like you and DEMANDS it, and it is so EASY to check up on them, well then why don't you start your own business/website/and show us how!!!!

YOu first post was bullshit and things aren't changing.

LMFAO@ Ironlock!

LMFAO@ Ironlock!

I couldn't help but LMFAO@U for your incredulous reply to me!

WAKE UP!

If a gambling info site owner is going to be a whore and accept banner ads from ANYONE and then will plug them ad infinitum, you bet he's created a quasi fiduciary duty towards his members!
Especially if he's continually represented that they're SOLID AS A ROCK!

WAKE UP!

It makes perfect sense to post WAIVERS on this site and any other gambling info site in order to insulate the gambling info site owner from 3rd party liability!

How's this one:

USE OF ANY THESE SPORTSBOOKS THAT ADVERTISE HERE IS AT YOUR OWN RISK! THIS SITE'S OWNERSHIP DOES NOT WARRANT OR IMPLY THAT ANY OF THESE SPORTSBOOKS ARE SOLVENT AND WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES RESULTING FROM ENSUING BANKRUPTCIES WHICH MAY TRANSPIRE!

WAKE UP!

Is it that difficult to write or telephone a regulatory agency (e.g., gaming commission) and get a company's filings? Everything can be had for some $$$! All it takes is a little effort!
I don't own this site, so why should I do it? For the common good? I guess I could!

IT'S CALLED DOING RUDIMENTARY DUE DILLIGENCE ON YOUR ADVERTISORS BEFORE YOU BLINDLY ACCEPT THERE ADVERTISING $$$!

Grow up, son! Stop hiding your head in the sand and acting like an ostrich!

Crack Rat,

You are so friggin' clueless that it's not even funny. There is no 'regulatory agency' or 'gaming commission' ANYWHERE offshore. That includes Costa Rica, Margarita, Curacao, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Dominica, and even Antigua.

Nobody 'files', except for *some* Aussie and UK books. NOBODY!

I have no idea if your playing this for laughs, or whatever, but it's truly astounding that somebody who obviously knows nothing about this industry is so aggressive when it comes to busting peoples balls about the same.

"write or telephone a regulatory agency and get a company's filings"

Talk about LMFAO.

crackrat,

It's already been said but obviously you're not getting it.

Why would you insist that someone else do all this investigation for you. It's your money, you'd think that if this was so important to you that you would have read over these filings and financial records yourself.

Yes I'll agree that Jack has somewhat of a responsibility. But on the other hand, he has IMO done everything that can be expected. Your nonsense of looking into a book's financials, etc is rediculous. Given a good or bad week, those financials can change drastically. Would you expect Jack to review each sponsor's financials on a weekly basis?

As others have stated, all the info you are asking for may or may not be available. But even if it were so readily available as you claim, why didn't you get it yourself?

You don't really expect us to hold your hand while you cross the street do you? Sure we'll give you directions, but whether you take that route is your choice. Be a grownup and live with the consequences of your own choices.

Life sucks sometimes and we'll all experience drawbacks, but pointing the finger and trying to lay the blame is just a waste of time and does nothing for your character.

If the offshores aren't right for you, go ahead and bet on state lottery events. Yeah, I didn't think so....

Kosar, You Kidding Me or Are You Serious?

Kosar, You Kidding Me or Are You Serious?

These offshore books have NO ACCOUNTABILITY AT ALL?

Does that mean ANYONE can go to one of the islands and open up an offshore gambling site? It's that easy? No paperwork is involved? The gambling offshore has to show NOTHING to the foreign jurisdiction's licensing body?

The offshore doesn't have to have a minimum capital requirement? It doesn't have to have a reserve fund set up for emergencies?

In other words, there are NO GOVERNMENTAL CONTROLS AT ALL?

WOW! Thanks for the "lesson," pal!

However, I think I'm gonna research each island country's laws with respect to gambling houses/casinos/offshores just to make sure you're on the mark!

Be rest assured, I'll be reporting back with my findings!

Should be a rather simple task. We'll expect you back sometime in the Summer of 2031.

Yanno, alot of things have changed in the gambling industry over the years, but some things are just about the same ever since Bugsy set up shop. Fact is, much of this industry still operates on a handshake, goodwill, word of mouth, etc, despite its enormous growth. I don't think I need to provide any examples. There is this myopic view, that if somehow everything was "on paper", things would be much more kosher. Well, paper shmaper. I've seen enough things in my life "on paper" that were not what they appeared to be. Again, I don't think I need to provide any examples.

However, this Aces Gold fiasco is a STUNNING example of something that is becoming increasingly rare in this crumbling society that we live in, and that is: TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR ONE'S OWN ACTIONS. It's so much more comforting to shift blame elsewhere. The harsh reality in the aftermath of this is: You have nobody to blame but yourself. Accepting this is not a character flaw and it's nothing to be ashamed of. It's part of the trial and error process of one's life. Those of us who were burned by this incident now have a different set of variables in which to operate. Although this is, by far, the most severe example, Aces was not the first shop to go belly up, and it won't be the last. Sending money offshore is, in and of itself, a gamble and the decision making process related to it is the same today as it was 3 weeks, a month, a year ago. What it boils down to is: each individual digests their own personal information, experience, gut feeling, whatever, and makes their OWN CHOICE as to if, when, where, and how they want to proceed. It's no different than any other facet of life. Responsibility for one's own actions - quite a concept.
